Continuing From
After listening to a long lecture from her professor Sabrina went back to her room. The next day the trip came to an end and the students followed teachers to return to the states. Sabrina was in a trance throughout the return journey.
That same year Sabrina fought with Daphne, the reason being Cindy. Daphne apologized profusely, but Sabrina was adamant about rejecting. Two weeks of repeated calls annoyed her so much that she switched off her phone on the first week, and took classes off on the second week. Her mom, a working woman hardly free to have some time with her children noticed her behavior and talked with her. Finally, she accepted Daphne's apology, but their friendship was never the same.
On the other hand, the same dream of that person kept coming repeatedly. Sabrina found this even more peculiar than what she originally thought. She realized this all started with that old lady and was quickly becoming a nightmare. Her sleeping habits got affected because of it causing her insomnia for three months.
Sabrina's parents worried about her health, brought her to see doctors. She started medications for it and got better. But it never stopped coming.
In her third year, she joined a company for an internship, where she got acquainted with him, the bane of her existence. Head of the department, Azrael Limonov her immediate superior. Young and successful in his late twenties. Features like an angel, named after an Archangel but the personality of a demon. Always picking faults with her.
They met for the first time when she went for the internship interview. The first half of the interview went good but things changed in the second half when he joined. During the second half, a man wearing a black suit and of tall stature entered from the door which was behind her chair. She heard the door's opening and closing, thinking someone came to deliver snacks.
When this person entered, the two recruiters went silent. When they recovered their wits they showed an intimidated expression. They immediately stood up to greet the person, but he waved a hand to stop them. "There's no need, go and help Secretary Evan. I'll take the interview." The voice was low pitch and deep in magnitude and it carried even more authority. The people present didn't dare to disobey. They immediately gave their respective leave and went out of the room.
Sabrina heard the voice and felt like she was in that same dream. Coming out of her reverie, she was shocked to see the changes but still kept her face calm. The man moved to her front and she stood up to greet him. His eyes fell on her and he paused for a second, something flashed in his eyes and he gave a slight smirk. Seeing this smirk Sabrina got distracted for a second time.
"Found you." she heard a low whisper by her ear. For some unknown reason, her body shuddered and she came out of her daydream.
"Sorry, did you say something?" came out almost reflexively.
"No... you can have the seat." The man sat down on the chair and started studying her documents. Sabrina frowned, but composed herself and sat down. She glanced at him to check him out. His deep flawless face was like a carefully crafted masterpiece. No matter from which angle you look he looked like an evildoer with a stunning visage.
"Name." The man stopped viewing the documents and gazed at her.
"Sabrina Williams." she gave a calm response while maintaining eye contact.
"Miss Williams, you are not graduated and this profile is not for part-time work." He leaned back in his chair, supported his chin with his left hand, and spoke like devil whispers. His whole set of actions were in a fluid motion without any hurry.
"But the article never mentioned it." She narrowed her eyes and tightened her lips.
"Sorry, we cannot hire you. Your academic records are quite good, but your degree is not complete for this post." He maintained the same posture and said 'Sorry'. But for Sabrina, he didn't felt sorry at all. It was like, he was mocking her.
"It's fine. Thank you for your precious time, I should take my leave." She stood up without waiting for the response. Feeling incensed inside, resolved to never come back here.
"But I can still hire you for another job, which will pay good and have a work shift of part-time might I add." Watching her he added at the right time like he knew her responses from the start. And just as he thought she stopped at once, turning to take a look. Her small face frowned but her eyes stayed calm as a lake without any ripples. Her expression shouted her suspicion of his motives. Just viewing her emotions which she wore on her sleeves made his day.
Earlier sitting in his office Azrael had this feeling, that the target he came looking for is nearby. Almost four months passed since he came but his target never showed up. At this rate he'll waste his time, it was not the real world after all. Nevertheless, he was going to wait another month and then return back to check out the target details. But his patience and preservation gifted him beautifully. And the current situation again strengthens his belief of taking that contract was worthwhile.
"Before you mentioned that you cannot hire me and now two seconds later you're telling me something different." Sabrina's eyes were a deep pool of abyss showing his image but filled with impatience. She was fed up with this man's way of talking. Finally, she took a deep breath and asked, "Tell me more."
Azrael wasn't surprised, she was where he wanted her to be. He explained to her unhurriedly. The post was for his secretary. It was made-up by him. To complete his contract he needed her to stay. That way he can proceed to the next phase easily. He has gotten all the information regarding her. She needed this internship to get extra credits from her professor. So he sent a proposal which she cannot deny.
"Thanks for the offer, but I need time to consider it." But against his expectations, she rejected him in a roundabout manner, which was a surprise in itself. There was a scorned look on her face, and her eyes were showing the mirth in them. Noticing the change in her eyes he was stunned and then chuckled hoarsely.
"I'll be waiting for your call," he responded promptly before she stood up.
Without further delay, Sabrina saunters to the door and vanishes behind the door. Getting out of the office building she calls her professor to ask about credits without an internship. But the reply made her frustrated and she almost went back to accept the job. Finally, without anything better to do, she went back home to take a nap. Surprisingly she didn't have that dream.
Two days later she finally called to confirm the job. The next two months' holiday where she had to go to work was not less than a nightmare for her. Her boss, whose name she got to know, Azrael Limonov was her primary source of headache. Although she got to learn many new things it did nothing to offset her annoying boss.
Just as her internship was coming to end her life was also heading to an ending. That morning she came early and was in Azrael's office sorting through the important file to work on. She felt a few tremors in her hands. Her gaze focused on the files which were also shaking unnoticeably, following it she felt the shaking of tables and chairs. The tremors kept increasing and started to make a sound. At this time she realized, it was an earthquake and it kept increasing in scale.
Azrael's office was on the upper floors of the building and going down even by the elevator will take a few minutes. This time gape was enough to destroy the building along with the people in it. She calmed her anxious mood and hurried to find a place to hide where the impact will be less.
Before the earthquake started, Azrael was sitting in the car on the way to his office. Thinking about ways to make Sabrina stay in his contact after her internship ended. He knew her dislike of himself but he wasn't worried in the least.
"Master an unknown energy fluctuation detected. Chances of the target getting attacked by the said unknown energy." At once his leisurely expression turned dark.
"Get out." Azrael closed his eyes to check Sabrina's location, seeing her in his office safe and sound made him relax a bit. Just as he opened his eyes he felt the tremor coming from the car seat. His senses were heightened beyond humans. Although most of his power was sealed before entering this place, it was not something humans can compare to.
He couldn't care less if Sabrina found out. In the next second, he vanished from the car, reappearing in his office. The building was falling into the ground and Sabrina was hiding under the desk, holding the table with all her might. Seeing Azrael appearing out of nowhere she froze and stared with wide eyes. Her face pales with the fright of her coming death nearly collapsed due to the unbelievable scene. He sped to her and took her out from under the desk.
"Don't look." Pulling Sabrina by her wrist he took a hold of her waist and closed her eyes with the other hand.
All this happened in two seconds and then she felt the heat of his skin on her waist. That same feeling from her dream came like deja vu. She almost believed it to be her reoccurring dream which stopped coming when she met this same man for the first time. But this proved to be wrong when her nose was filled with the smell of this man's cologne. She felt the weightlessness in the next second. She wanted to open her eyes to take a look but his hands were firmly clasped on her eyes.
When she felt the ground under her feet he removed his hands. Adjusting to the lights she opened her eyes and took a look at her surroundings. She was standing at the bus stop behind her office. Azrael was standing on her right, looking in the direction of the only collapsed building which was his office. His expression was unreadable.
Sabrina focused on herself and started to go through the events that happened today. Her mind went blank when she realized the man standing beside her came out of nowhere at that time. She was so distracted that she didn't realize that the things surrounding her were shattering like mirrors. The sun vanished, the sky turned dark and the ground turned bottomless darkness. Azrael noticed, but he knew it was too late.
The girl in front of him has realized that there was something wrong with her world. Her dream world where she prisoned herself to be precise. His task was to help her out of here but it seems he had to start again. His expression turned frightening when he realized she started to fade away in front of him. According to his information when a new dream begins, her soul shouldn't be affected. But this contrasted his understanding, he hurries to place a tracer on her and calls out to her. But it was too late, the girl vanished and along with her, he was also thrown out.
