Waking up with a splitting headache, once again in a different room, I rub my head trying to clear the pain. The air still had the distinct smell of disinfectant and i was still connected to beeping devices. The short periodic beeps were sort of comforting at this point.
I did not have to wait for long this time before someone walked into the room, though this time it was not a doctor. It was a woman in a grey suit. She barely had any makeup on her face, just what looked like copious amount of gloss on her lips, which made her look rather attractive. The expensive looking suit, lack of makeup and her stern look all pointed towards the same thing. This was someone important.
"Feeling better?", she questioned with a concerned look.
"I could be better. At least I'm awake."
"Right."
"So, what is wrong with me? What really happened that day?"
"We should talk about that Aelod. Is it alright if i call you that?"
"Ya, that's fine.", I said, but life has made me deeply suspicious of people in positions of authority and the politeness is making me very concerned.
"So Aelod, have you heard about the Many Worlds Theory of Reality?"
Oh boy, here we go. "I have heard about it."
"We have reason to believe there were unsanctioned experiments being conducted at a facility on the third floor of the building where you work and it appears you were victim to one of those experiments gone wrong."
I nod at her in dumb silence.
"Right now, our investigation shows that the facility in question was operating machinery with high levels of energy signatures that are banned in proximity of a metropolitan area. We are doing everything we can to identify and bring to trial all the people involved in this incident. To that end we need your cooperation in any investigation as a result of the incident and fulfill any and all obligations you have as a resident of this city.", she said as her voice grew increasingly grave with every sentence.
"I don't understand. Why is this happening to me, i had nothing to do with any of this. I just want to go home."
"I understand Aelod, you are distressed and confused. I want you to know you are in good hands." she said with a smile.
"I already feel much better, i just want to go home. You can just contact me if you have any questions, you know where i live! Just ask other people who were affected, i was at work and as i said before i didn't even see anything.", I was growing increasingly irritated and angry.
"I'm afraid i cant do that Aelod."she replied while reaching for a button by my bedside.
"Why?", i asked as i looked into her eyes.
"Because Mr.Helm, you were the only person alive in a five mile radius of the incident."she continued,"And we have reason to believe your health is still at risk."
"I feel fine." I replied. I wasn't.
"Mr.Helm you were brain dead for the last two months."
On that bombshell i felt my consciousness receding again and my body gave in to the darkness as the sound of hurried footsteps became increasingly quiet.
