"How are we supposed to get clothes?" Asked Amelia to Mark. That was after they had left the alleyway and looked at the surroundings.
"Uhh, I didn't think that far ahead. I just figured that our clothes looked weird and that we should change them," answered Mark.
"I have no idea how to get clothes, so we'll just have to walk around as we are now," said Amelia.
"Okay. While we listen in on other people's conversations, we should try and learn how to get currency from this world," said Mark as he pondered on the little knowledge he had of this dimension.
To Mark, and Amelia, the conversations that the people here had, didn't make much sense to them. Common words used among them that they couldn't understand were 'internet', 'dollars', 'dungeons', and 'Soul Avatar'.
The only way they would be able to understand what those things were, would be if they were to ask someone, which at this point was the only option they had. Amelia knew that they would find it strange that she didn't know what they considered common knowledge, but she had to ask anyway.
"Um, hello ma'am. Can I ask you a few questions?" Amelia asked the nicest looking person she saw while Mark just hid behind her.
"Hmm, what is it little lady?" The woman kindly smiled towards Amelia.
"This may sound a little strange, but please just answer," said Amelia. The lady continued smiling and nodded for Amelia to continue. "Okay, I'll ask all my questions at once then," Amelia took a deep breath and, "What is the currency here? What's the 'internet', what's a dollar, what's a 'Soul Avatar', and finally, do you know where we can get clothes?"
After hearing all of Amelia's questions, the lady looked at their clothes and saw how strange the looked. She had only looked at Amelia's face before that, so she didn't notice. 'They are strange looking clothes, kind of like those cosplayers,' the lady thought.
"You must be foreigners, but to not even know what a Soul Avatar… You poor children. I'd take you home with me, but I live in a one room apartment. That's too bad. Here, at least take this," spoke the woman in pity as she passed them a twenty dollar bill.
"This is the dollar you were asking about, it's the currency here. As for your other questions… *hmm*, I'll answer the easiest one first," the kind lady said after thinking for a moment. "To get clothes you can go to the shop just around the corner, it's called ****(Meaning I'm too lazy to come up with a name). Next, the internet is something we use to get information. It has information from all around the world, and it can be accessed within seconds. To access the internet you need a device, though," the kind lady showed them her phone after explaining what the internet is.
"Finally, the Soul Avatar. That's a bit hard to explain since not everything is understood about it, and you haven't experienced it yourself, but I'll try to explain it as best I can. It's… Well, a part of you, I'd say. *Argh*, It's easiest if you just experience it yourself. When you go to the clothing shop, you should see a long line of people lined up next to one of the buildings. After you get new clothes, go line up their and get yourselves the item they're handing out. You can ask the receptionist there about anything else," the kind lady gave them another smile.
"I'll be on my way then. You children be safe and have fun," the lady waved by and slowly disappeared into the crowd.
...…
"That lady was very kind," Amelia said as she walked together with Mark toward the clothing store.
"I don't like her," Mark said.
"Why's that? She was very kind, wasn't she?" Amelia asked in confusion.
Speaking through their soul, Mark said, 'She did have a bright aura. In fact, everyone around us has a bright aura, meaning that they have done righteous things. But for some reason, they make me feel queasy.'
'Isn't it just that you don't like anybody? Though it is strange for their to be such kind people, yet you were left alone in a ditch…' responded Amelia. She felt more suspicion for them after thinking about how awful Mark's life was here. 'How could his life be so miserable if there were kind people like that lady?' She thought.
'Your right in that I don't like them, but I still think there's something wrong with them,' Mark said.
'Okay then. We should be on our guard then.'
...…
'Damn brats. How can there be someone so idiotic?' The 'kind' woman that helped Mark and Amelia thought as she headed toward her apartment. 'Why'd they have to add some f*ck*ng stupid Karma evaluation. Thanks to that, I have to act nice and be a 'good person'. God, this so annoying.'
...…
Amelia and Mark went to the clothing shop, and Amelia asked for a pair of clothes for each of them for less than twenty dollars. The receptionist nodded his head and helped them pick out clothes.
They didn't have a lot of choices with their measly amount of money, so they both got plane clothes. They both got the same clothes, black pants with a smooth texture that were relatively easy to move around in, and a grey shirt with a cottony texture.
They left the store, and as the lady had said, there was a long line of people lined up at an adjacent building. They walked over and stood at the back of the line to wait for their turn.
'Hey Mark,' Amelia said to Mark inside their soul.
'What is it?" Asked Mark.
'It's nice to be able to talk through our minds, don't you think?' She asked Mark.
'Yah, it's easier to talk this way,' Mark agreed.
'Hey, since we have the free time, why don't we test the effects of our combined soul?' Amelia thought about all of the different possibilities their could be, so she asked If Mark wanted to test them out.
'Sure, It should be a good way to pass the time as we wait for the line to move forward,' Mark once again agreed.
'Okay. To start, you try everything you can think about doing with our soul and then I'll try. After that we can try and see what happens when we both control our soul,' suggested Amelia.
Mark held Amelia's hand so that she could drag him forward in the line while he focuses on their soul. Amelia blushed a little, but Mark couldn't see it as he was already focusing on their soul.
He 'looked' around inside of their soul and thought of all the things he could try. He'd start with what he could do before, like gathering Mana, spinning it, and various other things. After that, he would try to do things he couldn't before, like creating things out of Mana inside his soul.
