Claudia was peeling an apple while humming a happy tune besides William's bed. She felt that an apple should be great for a hungry stomach as William liked fruits a lot, especially apples and mangoes.
A few minutes later, William started showing signs of recovering his consciousness. Claudia quickly put away the apple and the knife on the table beside the bed and stood up to carefully observe his each and every movement. After 30 seconds of eternity, he finally opened his eyes. Looking at those big innocent eyes of her child, Claudia's maternal instincts went into overdrive.
"Baby are you okay? Are you hurting somewhere? Are you hungry? Mommy peeled an apple for you. Do you want to eat it?"
Looking at his mother's reaction, William just quietly thanked whoever had given him the opportunity to have a mother like Claudia.
Some may think she was a bit clingy or overprotective, but they didn't know what it feels like to face the chilling darkness of society alone. They haven't felt the despair of being completely alone in the whole world. When all that the world can offer is pity and scorn, it creates a very profound sense of helplessness inside you, which keeps on growing as time passes by. You just hope that someone out there will say that they care about you, even if it's false, or you quietly let the despair take away your life.
I have felt all of it, that is why I appreciate Claudia's concern for me. My only dream is to live a life with no regrets and share all my experiences with her, whether they are good or bad. For I know that she won't leave me alone or betray me.
"Mother I feel a little thirsty. Could you pass me a glass of water, please?"
"Sure, wait a second. Would you also like anything else Will?"
"The apple which you peeled mother."
Claudia quickly poured a slightly cold glass of water of William. After he finished drinking it, she started feeding him the apple slices with her own hands. After finishing the apple and having one more glass of water William was ready to delve deeper into the current matter.
"Mother, could you explain what happened to me, and why I am in a weird place like this?"
Claudia was used to William talking in a mature manner. To her, it felt like that he was trying to copy her manners so that he could be more like her. It made her it was the cutest thing in the world.
Claudia started softly caressing William's hair softly and replied, "I wanted to wait a few years before we had this talk. But it seems the circumstances have forced to reveal things earlier than I expected."
William looked into the eyes of Claudia and declared with a resolute expression, "I can wait a few more years if you are not comfortable talking about it mother."
Looking at William trying (only she thought so) to be mature, Claudia's heart started gushing with sweetness and she almost spilt the beans. She quickly calmed herself down and started thinking about the situation logically. Will still didn't have a bout of accidental magic. It may either be due to the fact that he was a squib, or he was emotionally calmer than other children. She didn't want to break his heart by getting his hopes up about something as mystical as magic.
As she was trying to decide how to proceed, the fork which she used to the apple slices entered her eyes. Immediately a brilliant idea exploded in her mind. She handed the fork to William and said, "If you can change the shape of this fork even slightly using your mind, I will tell you everything. Mom promises."
William grabbed the fork tightly in his hands and started thinking about the request his mother had made. After connecting all the limited information he had, he looked at Claudia and said,
"Mother, from what I can deduce magic is a true phenomenon. But everyone can't be a mage. Also, it is not necessary that someone with one mage parent will be able to do magic. Lastly, common people don't know about mages. Am I right? Don't worry mother I'm not such a weakling that I will throw a tantrum if I can't do magic."
'I wouldn't be depressed or throw a tantrum because I'm living such a fulfilled life. I don't even have to work when I grow up, and I could live ever day lavishly relying just on mother's money.'
The hand caressing William's hair had stopped. Claudia was looking at her child with a complicated emotion. She was so happy that he was a smart kid. But wouldn't being too smart, so early in life, hurt him? She took and deep breathe and spoke with a resolute voice, "Yes, all of what you said is true."
Looking at his mother's condition, William felt a bit guilty. He was way too excited to get some information about magic in this world and spoke out his deductions out loud. He gave a soft smile to Claudia and tightly gripped her palm in his small hands.
"Mother you are so cute. You worry about the stupidest things so much. Don't you know that I'm your child? Even if I couldn't do magic I would just be a little miffed about it, nothing more. And, I don't know for what reason you assumed that I can't do magic. I can fully assure you that I can do it. Just give me a little bit of time and I will bend that fork for you."
Seeing Claudia's surprised expression William gave a small laugh and kissed her cheek lightly. He pulled her onto the bed completely and said, "Let's sleep for now. My headache is still not completely gone, so I want to sleep while hugging you."

***Inside William's Mind***
'Seems like mother is really worried that I won't be able to use magic.'
(*Ding* I suggest that you use 7675 medium Dragon Farm Feed and on Rie. It will bring her to Level 11. She will provide you with 600 EXP every day your strength will increase significantly faster.)
'Good idea. Do it right now Saphira. I really want to see how 600 EXP will change me.'
(*Ding* It will be a little painful during the first couple of days, but William should be able to endure it.)
'Thanks a lot for the encouragement, Saphira. Goodnight! I will talk to you later.'
(*Ding* Goodnight William.)

***Next Day - At William's House***
An old lady, around the age of 50, was waiting in front of the fireplace of Walker mansion's living room. She was dressed in a sparkling clean Victorian maid outfit. Although she couldn't escape the ravages of time, remenants of her beautiful youth still sparkled clearly on her face.
"Welcome Back, Misstress and young master!" The old lady called out pleasantly.
William just gave her a curt nod and Claudia responded politely, "Thank you for taking care of the house in our absence, Sophia."
Sophia just gave her usual pleasant smile in reply. After everyone was inside the house Sophia asked again, "Would you like to eat something?"
Claudia shook her head and responded, "I haven't been to the office for two days. I need to go there and have a look at how things are going on."
A monotone voice sounded, "Ah, I am so traumatised by the recent traffic accident. A small child like me would definitely be scared to eat on his own. If my mother doesn't make me eat maybe I will just spend the locked inside my room and starve to death."
"Will, please don't do this. I really have to be at the office as soon as possible."
"I was a good boy who listened to what his mother said. But now I'm a traumatised boy. I have every right to throw a tantrum."
Claudia looked at her son's expression and knew he wouldn't budge. She gave a sigh and said, "Fine, Sophia could you make us lunch please."
"It's almost done, mistress. Please head to the dining table and I will bring the food within five minutes."
The lunch wasn't something fancy, chicken soup and baked potatoes. Claudia was eating very fast and she had very less food on her plate. But William didn't disturb her anymore. Since she had promised to eat, she would eat enough so that it wouldn't affect her health.
Claudia finished earlier than William. She gave him a quick kiss on the forehead and said, " I will try to come home a little earlier tonight."
William gave her a nod and continued to enjoy Sophia's delicious chicken soup. She was a seriously badass maid. He always used to think about how she could pop out of nowhere, whenever he called out her name. She could always finish her tasks very fast with awesome results. She knew how to cook almost all the famous dishes around the world. William had a sneaking suspicion that she was a good fighter too. Have you ever seen an old lady who jogs 30 km every morning?
'It must be magic.'
William finished his meal after 10 minutes and said to Sophia standing beside him, "The meal was as delicious as usual, auntie. I will be resting in my room. Please don't allow anyone to disturb me."
Sophia gave a forty-five-degree bow and said, "Thank you for the praise, young master. I shouldn't disturb you even if it is Miss Riely?"
"If it's her, just serve her some snacks and switch on the T.V. Tell her that no one is allowed to disturb me as I'm still healing."
"I will take care of it, young master."
William stood up and started walking towards the door when he suddenly remembered something.
"Sophia, What happened to that scumbag?"
"He didn't survive the accident, young master."
"Oh, have preparations for his funeral been made? I really don't want to appear as a dick in front of my grandparents, so take care of everything and keep me updated on the process. Mother most probably forgot about him because of me and her job, so don't disturb her regarding this."
"Sure, young master. Everything will be finalised by evening."
William went inside his room and locked the door carefully. After making sure that no one could peek inside his room through the windows he lied down on the bed.
'Finally! I have been waiting for so long. Saphira, I want to go to space.'
(*Ding* Yes, William. Welcome to the dragon farm!)
