Qai and his Family

Qai's father, Shu Wei, had chosen a mainstream weapon: sword.

He complimented his weapon by equipping 'Sword Slash' common class skill. His 'Elemental Wall was another common class skill.

By common class, it meant that those two skills could be utilized by a cultivator with any elemental affinity.

But because Earth element specializes in defense, that 'Elemental Wall' made of Earth element obviously became doubly durable.

Shu Wei's prized third skill, 'Earthquake Kick, was a rare skill. Since it is rare, it meant such skill was specifically designed for Earth attribute.

'Earthquake Kick' was actually a mid range kick that could create lineal cracks visible on the ground when activated coupled with loud vibrations. And in Shu Wei's case, he acquired it with the help of an elder of the former clan he served.

Qai's mother's name was Shu Ling.

Although a cultivator, she was not fond of fighting—so at 35, with Water as her element, she barely reached the peak Earth stage of Expert realm. And with meager cultivation, her main task in the family was to take care of the household and the management of their small-time inn.

Shu Ling only-learned skill was 'Basic Healing.' Such skill however was a rare one as it could only be learned by cultivators with Water elemental affinity.

Qai's older brother, Shu Wu, obviously idolized his father.

At 20 years old of peak Sky stage of Expert realm, his cultivation was by no means of a genius level. His cultivation had actually slowed down with the lack of resources.

As for his cultivation path, he had followed the steps of his father for his skill choices, namely, 'Sword Slash' and 'Elemental wall,' and was already prepared to learn 'Earthquake Kick' should he breakthrough to Heaven stage.

Shu Wu married at the age of 18 and her wife was actually an expectant mother. And this made Shu family a bit bigger.

Qai's sister-in-law, Qinlun, 19 and who was originally an orphan, was of Fire element and was at the initial Sky stage of Expert realm. She was adopted by Qai's parents after she awakened her element. His father actually believed that such a talent was hard to come by.

Fire element was considered a common element but was definitely valueable as the element has twofold path.

A cultivator with such elemental affinity may either opt for an all-alchemy skill or for an all-offense one or a combination of both. An all alchemy skill build was actually in demand for large sects for obvious reasons.

As for Qinlun, she chose a common class 'Palm Strike' as her first skill. She thought that she at least needed one striking skill before focusing in an all-alchemy build. And for her second skill, she learned the rare skill, 'Basic Alchemy.'

Both Qai's brother and sister-in-law were expecting a baby soon. And this fact led Qai to believe that his family's rise to become a cultivating clan was inevitable. And for him, it was only a matter of time.

Qai's older sister, Shu Liang, 10, had Wind element for her cultivation affinity. She was currently at the peak Earth stage of Expert realm. Such speed in cultivation was average.

Shu Liang's choice of first skill was called 'Cloud Steps.' It was actually of common grade, but due to her agility type element, the skill became doubly efficient. And as for her weapon, she chose flying needles which also complimented her element.

Without any attacking skill yet, her job in the family was zeroed in gathering herbs. But because of her speed, she could easily escape from low-leveled demonic beasts which explained why she could enter and gather herbs in the inner part of Darkwood forest.

*************

On the first day in the Darkwood Forest, Qai specifically focused on hunting wild rabbits and wild boars. These beasts are only in the realm of mortal beasts.

*************

Beasts were categorized into Mortal,

Demonic and Divine.

Mortal beasts were mere food for mortal men. And they actually had no use to cultivators. That was because they neither had cultivation nor skills and their meat was not nutricious as food for cultivators.

At most, their special trait was that all demonic beasts start from being mortal. So basically, a mortal beast could also enter into cultivation.

Demonic and Divine beasts were special. They had cultivation levels, some had elemental affinities, some do not—but all could produce inner cores. And as they got stronger, they could develop special skills—although their skillls were limited to only one for every realm of their cultivation.

Although limited, their skills were far stronger—that was because the physical constitution of beasts were obviously greater than human cultivators. So the gap in quantity was eventually offset by quality.

Beast cores found in demonic and divine beasts had two uses, namely, skill scroll making and concocting pills of higher grade.

So basically the skill acquired by cultivators were somewhat 'stolen' or 'copied' from demonic beasts through the scrolls forged by immortals.

But for Qai's training, hunting mortal beasts just to train himself was more than sufficient.

There were no levels among mortal beasts. They were simply classified according to inner strength and basic instinctive abilities.
