Camp Hatteras

It was January 6th, year 302 of the new era. Moving at an incredible speed, I am heading to Camp Hatteras, the best military base out there, producing quality soldiers that are the best of the best. What a ridiculous propaganda pamphlet.

There was only about 7 other people here with me, all coming from different stops, with different faces and motivations. The girl in front of me is still crying and constantly trying to break out. With at least a guard standing right beside her and no windows, it's a hopeless case. If the train ride is this tightly guarded, I dread to see what the base will be like.

"We have arrived at our destination, please follow the soldier next to you and leave the train according to their instructions." the automated voice says.

The soldier held his gun closely as if ready to fire, then looked at me with threatening eyes. He held his head high and his nose up in the air, like he was better than everyone else. Arrogant.

He signalled for me to go ahead and I did obediently, escaping isn't my plan, its vengeance i want. Getting of the train, we were immediately led to the camp.

It was a breathtaking sight, the land was plain and green. There was domes jutting out of the ground like igloos, blue, some connected some separate. The horizon was an ocean, vast and blue. Beautiful, all of it was breathtakingly beautiful. Such a lovely place should not be in anyway related to murder or hardships of any sort, a shame, yet it's a nest full of it.

" Let's go." the soldier said as he pushed me forward.

We went inside the center dome, which was closely guarded, having soldiers only a few steps away from each other. It was an intimidating hallway, the pressure of all these soldiers boring down is suffocating. Even the soldier guiding me started to break out in cold sweat, his initially arrogant posture seemingly nonexistant.

Once we reached the end all of us were led into separate rooms.

The room I entered was pure white with only a stool, a comfy rolly chair, and a desk that seems to hide tangled cables interrupting it.

"We'll do a compatibility test." the soldier behind the desk said, interupting my observations.

He took a helmet like device and told me to put it on. A few seconds after it was on, my body started to tremble. I could almost feel my cells shaking, struggling to withstand the pressure this machine seems to be bringing. A splitting headache overwhelmed my senses, and everything turned hazy, and then my vision went blank.

"Ugh." I struggled to lift my head, my body aching feeling as though I ran a marathon. Looking around, I was in a small and cramped room, the wall, a pale white concrete, with plenty of the paint scraped off. The bed creaked as I tried to get up. A musty, stale smell assaulted my nose and the air felt damp and humid. a pleasant room.

I looked around the room, there is nothing here except a cabinet and a bed. Those probably couldn't tell me how I got here so, I went towards the door to find a guard was standing outside.

"Awake?" he asked me.

Obviously, I thought to myself.

"It's past curfew, and you are required to stay in your quarters until the next day." the guard said again, before aggressively shoving me inside my 'quarters'.

I got up the floor after losing my balance, thanks to the guards 'friendly' push. Since he wasn't going to tell me anything, with no other alternatives, I decided to look inside the cabinet, and find out what's going on, I might've missed important information after passing out.

And sure enough I found a booklet in one of the drawers. "Way of Camp Hatteras" its titled, I have a feeling this'll be a great booklet.

After skimming through the book, the only information I seem to find useful is

1.Curfew is at 10 pm unless exempted by an instructor.

2.you're supposed to stay in your quarters after curfew (but the guard already told me that)

3.You are to follow the schedule you have been given.

4.Your instructors may have additional expectations

5.A breach of the rules and expectations will result in appropriate consequences.

6.A map of the place.

6 things (5 if you don't count #2) in a 200+ page booklet. I wonder what the rest of the stuff is filled with. Oh yeah Brainwashing and some crap about a soldier's spirit.

"Get up!" I heard a voice roar. Followed by a sharp pain from my stomach. My eyes flew open and darted around the room before setting on the cold face of the ever so familiar guard.

"It's 4 AM, wake up time."

Apparently punching people in the guts is waking them up. "Here is your schedule, you are expected to follow it to the letter." He then proceeded to stuff a schedule on my face and leave the room, leaving me behind, speechless.

Schedule of Cadet Ilzsfar, Sylvia E.

4:00 wake up call

4:00 to 6:00 free time(prepare)

6:05 to 7:45 physical education

7:50 to 8:40 study of mutational evolution

8:45 to 11:00 weaponry

11:05 to 11:30 lunch

11:35 to 16:00 resource gathering

16:00 to 18:00 evolution and meditation

18:00 to 22:00 free time

'Seems fine, not as bad as I thought it was gonna be at least.' was my very wrong train of thoughts at that moment. Since it was free time I went around the camp to take a look and get ready. The place is pretty much what you'd expect a camp to look like. Bare, silver and grey walls, long, laborious and confusing hallways, stone faced patrolling soldiers, everything meets the mark for a cruel training camp, it sets the perfect mood.

Using the map provided, I found the bathrooms and showers. Then I went to the cafeteria. I figured that skipping the most important meal wasnt a good idea, not in a millitary camp at least
