Chapter 10 : New loyalties

After arriving at the next 'kingdom', we stopped to admire it.

"This is the kingdom of Quizie?" Tempest asked. The walls were only a dozen feet tall, the town was more of a village, and the castle was more of a big house. Massive plot twist.

"Well we must at the very least introduce ourselves to the ruler of this settlement." I said. Making our way to the big house we only saw at least ten people, who went and hid in their houses. Finally we made our way into throne room, or what looked like it. The king turned out to be a young man, possibly only a couple of years older than me.

"Greetings your majesty," I stated hoping to make a good first impression, "We have come from the nation over hoping to seek refuge in your city."

"Why are you seeking refuge?" the King asked.

"You see, we were accused of cheating and were deemed as traitors without proof to back it up."

"Did you cheat?" he questioned.

"No sir, we did not. If you allow us to stay, in payment we have decided to work for your military if you please." I replied.

"Why for our military and not as farmers?" he asked one more.

"Our levels are high enough for the military and we are all more fighters. I am level 65, Tempest is level 49, Astral is level 45, MP is level 52, and Vortex is level 54." I said pointing to each of them as I spoke.

"Alright, but first I would like a test of loyalty. I want you to go and burn down one house in this town."

We stood up and walked outside of the house.

"It's definitely a test. I say that we should not burn any house down and say that we could never do that because we're loyal." Tempest told everyone. We all looked at him thinking the same thing, damn that's a smart idea. There was no need to even debate the idea, that's how good it was. Surprising, as it came from an idiot like Tempest.

"Ok but let's at least wait a few minutes before we enter just to make it seem better." I said. After two minutes, we walked back inside.

"So, did you accomplish your mission?" The King asked.

"Sorry King, we couldn't burn down a building that is benefiting your colony." I replied. The King looked very pleased with this answer.

"Very good, your group is the first one to not comply with that order. All the rest went and burned a home down. Now, since if you wanted you could already have destroyed our town had you been spies because of your levels, I would like to apply you five as my personal guards as well as my commanders for my military with… Shadow was it? As the second in command only under me." The King stated sounding relieved. Suddenly I caught a glimpse of a girl hiding behind a door in the back. She looked absolutely stunning and around my age too. Score! Ha! sike! It was only code, this game is too realistic. The King saw where my gaze was directed and spoke.

"That is my younger sister, Natalie." and then to her, "come and introduce yourself to our new commander and his comrades." The shy girl stepped out and came forward.

"H-hello my name is N-natalie and I'm Nathan's younger sister," she whispered. That entire time I was in awe of her beauty. God damn this code.

"U-um, my name is Shadow but you can call me Axle." I stuttered as soon as I was able to speak.

"Axle, I like that name." she replied sounding more natural.

"My name is Harry." Astral stated.

"Name's James." MP said trying to sound aloof.

"My name is Josh, it's nice to meet you." Tempest fluidly stated.

"My name is Zac and I think Shadow is into y-" Vortex answered but I elbowed him in the stomach to shut him up. She bowed and said,

"Nice to meet all of you. I hope we can be good friends."

Standing back up, I thought, Damn the code is something else.

"Now how about I tell you all about our small community." King Nathan said once we had introduced ourselves. Following him outside, he told us about how there was a dungeon not too far from town but the town wasn't able to go deeper than the third level and the only people who were even able to get to that level was himself, the Captain, and his little sister. We arrived at the armory where the Captain was sitting, watching us walk towards him.

"Hello there Captain, I've got some recruits and I want you to test them and judge their skills." King Nathan spoke once in range of the Captain.

"Would be my pleasure to test them, your majesty. What test should I start with? Level 1, level 2, or level 3?" The captain replied. A notification popped up asking us to select the difficulty that we wanted. I selected the hardest difficulty along with my group. I was confident that we would be able to do it because of how high our levels were. Without talking, we strolled over towards the dungeon.

I wonder what drops we'll get. I had submerged into my mind as we walked. My katana is now really powerful, I wonder if I could infuse my armor with my magic. It was like I was slapped across the face, why hadn't I tried that before? As we walked I slowed my pace to be at the back and started to infuse my scarf with lightning first. The result was staggering.
