"What am I supposed to do now? This is just increasing."
I screamed, realizing that I probably looked like a large orange ball now. I am done asking them what was happening, as their answers are just more confusing. First, I need to stop this.
"Just don't panic, Atarah. It will only make the situation worse."
"Yeah, say the same when you are being engulfed by fire."
I shouted at the girl who only appears when my life takes a turn. However, she was right. The more I lose my mind, the worse it gets. I tried to calm down, but seriously, who would when you are in my shoes?
"We have to contact Ignacia as soon as possible."
Helena said, maintaining enough distance from me. I noticed that she was so practical and mature. I wonder how she dated stupid Sid.
"But how?"
This was the first time Alex spoke, and I was partly glad to see him and I sharing the same emotion for once. He had no clue what was happening, as his eyes looked ready to pop out.
"I don't know. Ryan was there with her all that time. Maybe he knows how she received it."
Helena turned to the said vampire with a questioning look. How will he know when I don't even know? God, these creatures were driving me crazy!
"I was there with her. But during the last hours, I got locked out of the room by him. When I finally entered, everything was over."
Ryan seemed to like memorizing things. Things that I can't understand. I didn't raise any questions, though. It's better that way. Right?
"But how can we contact her when no one knows where she is?"
Cole looked so concerned. Yeah, if you cared so much, you shouldn't have started it in the first place.
"But we have to, before it's too late."
Helena said, glancing in my direction. What? Am I going to die? Helena ordered a few of the werewolves to get some water, and the four-legged animals immediately ran in a random direction before bringing several buckets. They emptied it on me, and as the cold liquid touched my body, I instantly relaxed. It took them numerous trips back and forth from the source of water, and the flame subsided after half an hour or so. I don't remember exactly. Ryan removed his jacket and covered my drenched body with it. He asked if I needed a piggyback ride, and I shook my head violently. When did the situation escalate to a rom-com?
"We have to leave as soon as possible."
Ryan murmured, not giving any room for a contrary opinion. Cole convinced Alex to leave for now and told me to take some rest despite the death glare he was getting from my mate. After all these conversations, I got one point across. Whatever was happening here, it was not going to be good for me.
.................
By the time we finally arrived at Ryan's room, he had taken out a bag and started packing immediately. He gave me a towel to dry my hair, and I slowly took it from him. The idea of him leaving at this point didn't suit me well. My energy felt drained, and I was afraid that the incident would repeat.
"Are you trying to escape from me?"
I asked, my sound fading at the end. I hate to be weak, but my mind was not functioning properly right then.
"Do you want me to?"
He replied, still packing. I wanted to say 'no' but my ego wouldn't allow it.
"As you wish."
I made it sound simple, but I prayed for him to change his mind. He might be a jerk, but Ryan was the only one who knew me more than the others. Things that I don't even know about myself. He closed the zipper and looked at me with a strange expression.
A knock was heard on the door, to which he immediately responded. It was Diana. He greeted her with a smile, and she returned the same.
"Did you get everything, Miss Diana?"
"Yes master. Like you said."
The dutiful servant handed him a bag, and he murmured a thank you. After closing the door, he placed the bag right next to his and opened it. It was full of my clothes. I looked at him, confused.
"I am never going to escape from you, and neither can you escape from me, even if you want to."
It was a simple sentence, but it filled my heart like a sweet lake. I have been alone all my life, and it was the first time someone said something so intense to me. He meant what he said, and I was certain of that from his voice. My eyes experienced moisture, and I looked at him like a puppy.
"I don't want you to leave me."
I usually used to regret saying such things, but this time I felt content. The look on his face was priceless. He closed our distance in a millisecond.
"I will do anything to protect you. I will fight anyone to keep you safe. I will cross any boundaries to make you mine."
My body felt hot, and my heart was racing after each of his words.
"I know."
It was barely audible, but I am sure he heard it. Ryan pressed his forehead against mine, which was a really calming gesture. He was indirectly soothing me, and I realized that I was attracted to Ryan.
Our little privacy was suddenly interrupted by a bang on the door. I jumped back from him in alarm. Without waiting for our permission, Ebenezer entered the room with a grim face.
"Did I hear right about you being the King of Dark Shapeshifters?"
Ryan was silent. Damn, I have never seen Ebenezer look so furious.
"And is Atarah the next fire goddess?"
What? Right. I remember Helena saying something of that sort an hour ago. Am I really going to be a deity?
"There's no time for this, dad. We have to leave immediately."
Though Ryan was cool, I could sense a bit of tension, which is not a good sign at all.
"Oh really? You are telling me to keep it down when I come to know that my son is the King of Dark Shape Shifters?"
Ebenezer was shouting like a mad person now. How can someone be king without anyone's knowledge?
"Do you have any idea how much our kind has suffered because of them? Why didn't you tell me about this? At least you could have protected our people from being killed by them."
He has a point there. I wonder why Ryan let those beasts harm his own race.
"I will tell you everything once we return. Now is not the right time."
It seemed like Ryan was hiding something. What a fool am I? Of course, he is hiding everything. When Ebenezer started walking towards the door, I thought he was leaving, but I was proved wrong when he closed the door and stood in front of it like a barrier.
"You are not going to leave unless you tell me everything."
Oh! Oh!
"Dad please. Don't test my patience."
Ryan's voice was dead serious.
"Are you going to kill me, son?"
Was he seriously challenging Ryan? The so-called son took a few steps forward. Holy shit!
"Don't make me."
Oh, my god. I don't want to witness this.
"I can see that my son, the most powerful vampire, is a grown man now, but did you really think that you could win over me, the King? Don't forget that I am your dad and you are not mine."
What a classic parent dialogue! However, the looks on their faces were horrifying. I suddenly wished the ground would swallow me completely. Ryan was about to make the wrong move when a female voice echoed throughout the room.
"Quite a scene to watch."
All our heads turned to meet the most graceful face one could ever find. She was spectacularly dressed in a peacock-green gown, and she came in through the window.
"Felicia?"
Ebenezer changed his attacking mode and bowed to her in a gentleman's way. Ryan followed his father's gesture. I, on the other hand, was bewitched by her beauty.
"What are you doing here, Felicia?"
Ryan was still angry but kept it under control. She must be someone powerful.
"Can't the Fairy goddess meet the future Fire goddess?"
Her attitude....
Wait....
She's the fairy goddess???
She might have noticed my wide eyes as her attention now drew to me.
"Good day, Atarah. How do you do?"
Even in the midst of all these fights, she talks like someone we met in a park.
"I a..m goo..d. Th.. and you..."
I was literally stammering. Am I bisexual?
"What is your reason for the visit, Felicia?"
It was Ebenezer this time.
"Such an impatient son and father! Can't you guys wait till I have a brief chat with my friend here?"
She said this, pointing in my direction. Did I just get friend zoned?
"That won't be necessary, because we are having a serious talk here."
Ebenezer finished the sentence, giving a warning signal to Ryan.
"Oh, is it about him being the King of something you dislike?"
Felicia squeaked like a teenager, making Ebenezer and Ryan look at her in shock. How did she know?
"I can tell you about that, Donnels, if you want. As your son here is too shy to do so."
"You wouldn't."
Ryan's sound held some sort of plea. What is he actually hiding?
Sure, I will, because you can't keep it a secret after what happened tonight. Ebenezer, your son, cannot stop them as he is not their current owner. He can control them only because his mate is their producer. And I meant you, Atarah. You are the true owner of dark shapeshifters."
