Blast furnace - Part 2

Mors stared at both the sword and me, I could clearly know that I still had many doubts about the subject.

In this world when something was made with metal, such as a sword, a piece of metal is used, then heated and from hits give the desired shape. This works lasted several days to make only one sword. The method I wanted to introduce was the mass production, if we use clay molds from pieces of wood like the one I had in my hand, we would just have to fill the newly melted metal in the molds and let them dry, then we would just have to give them the final details like polishing.

After explaining the method we would use, Mors was in an internal conflict. He liked to forge with his own hands, but he was also excited to try this type of manufacturing.

-well for now we can not melt the minerals, we have to finish making the constructions that will join the blast furnace-

Mors agreed with me, in order to start the melting process we still had to build the channels that will connect the air pumps with the blast furnace, and in the middle of this connection we have to make a secondary furnace through which the pumped air passes and This has a high temperature, in this way the temperatures reached inside the blast furnace will be higher. In addition, we still had to build wooden cranes to lift the containers full of minerals, which will be thrown through the upper opening of the blast furnace.

During this construction process, which did not need so much labor, I decided to start manufacturing the necessary fuel for blast furnaces, coal. To be more exact charcoal, at the beginning as always Mors was skeptical when I told him that he would make coal, to his understanding the coal was extracted from the mines, but I told him that there was a method to make coal. For that, he just needed a lot of wood, and a location to build a dome-shaped structure. This structure would be the charcoal, it will be made of refractory clay, the same that is used to join the refractory bricks. Within this structure we would pile large quantities of wood which we will burn for a long time in this way the pieces of wood will burn to form charcoal.

Although coal lasts longer and causes higher temperatures, another factor is still necessary to be able to manufacture steel, enough iron for charcoal to make iron, but a higher temperature is needed for steel. There goes my sister Nao. For a long time Nao started using his "enchantment" ability, as I deduced, this ability increased the basic characteristics of an object or could also give them, although Nao could only improve them at the moment. In this case, Nao would enchant the charcoal used to make steel, so that this charcoal would last longer and provide higher temperatures. In this way the resulting steel will be of good quality.

During 3 days, the construction of the last channels joining the air pumps and the blast furnace, as well as the cranes were carried out. And finally we produce enough kilograms of charcoal.

When Mors saw the coal, I could not help but laugh when he saw his surprised face. Afterwards he grabbed my shoulders with his big hands and looked at me seriously.

-Aren, you know what it means to be able to make coal is not like that-

-I do not know what you mean-

- ... -

- ... -

-you know that coal is a scarce material in this part of the continent, and that if it is found, it is difficult to extract since it is very deep in the earth. You know that the only ones that are much easier to obtain are the dwarves and they are the only ones who trade with this material. If we get to know that we can do as much coal as we want, I do not think the dwarves are happy with this. Despite not interfering much with the other races, they still do it only to sell the coal they extract, if we start to sell it the prices will go down and they could have bad intentions towards us, and not only the dwarves, but other races, merchants or human settlements-

Before the declaration of Mors I could only be speechless, I had not stopped to think about the consequences of my actions when introducing new technologies. I did not know that they could lead to a situation not only dangerous for me but for my whole tribe.

-ahhh ... well, you do not need to worry about the moment as it is still difficult for others to discover that we can make charcoal, being in this area I do not think anyone will discover it-

At Mors's words, I was able to reassure myself a little. If I stop to think, it is true that it will be difficult to know about this. But in the future I will have to be more careful of what we do. Now I am more determined to make plans to isolate this area from other people, I had planned a plan to make our own city on the islet of the lake and leave this area as the area of cultivation and forging, due to the natural barriers that surrounded this area I thought would be enough but now I have to draw a new plan, but I think this will need new technologies to be carried out but in turn these technologies are also dangerous to bring to light, ahhh this is a circle that will be repeated continuously if you do not find a solution.

Now I understand why Yoru wanted to leave his position as leader of the tribe, I did not think that this position would entail so many responsibilities and headaches.
