philosophers stones.

Nick flew over the barred gates to enter the city and what he saw made him immediately run away from the city rapidly. there on the ground near the gate was a crowd of people that had their entire vitality and soul forcefully torn from them leaving them skeletal and dead. nick knew what could cause something like this as well as what it would create and so he fled from the city as fast as he could. nick continued to flee for three whole days without rest heading towards the safest place he could think of , the capital. if the people in the city were slaughtered in a normal manner nick wouldn't have reacted so strongly to finding out about it , but once he saw how those people died he knew that some fool had created a philosophers stone. the difference between simply killing people to fuel something compared to creating a stone was that the first path is less efficient but doesn't endanger the natural order of the world. the second method however quite literally uses the souls of the victims to fuel whatever it is applied to. this means that using this method permanently erases large amounts of souls from heaven and earths system angering it immensely.

This anger doesn't take form in the shape of tribulations like most acts against heaven and earth does. but rather heaven and earth curse the stones so that anyone who was directly involved with the creation of them within five whole generations loses all hope of ever advancing their cultivation as well as loses their innate luck. this doesn't sound that bad at first glance but the truth of the matter is that a huge amount of the reason cultivators survive so long has to do with their innate luck which once gone means that being unlucky becomes the only thing that they have. this means if something bad could be avoided with luck then these people can't avoid it any longer. this is why nick reacted to the discovery so harshly as he wanted to distance himself from any possible involvement from this foul act. fortunately or maybe unfortunately for nick depending on how you see it the multiple stones created by the organization were making their way to the capital as well.

"are the preparations for the event complete?" a heavy male voice asked in a dark room. "almost we nearly need to go over all the possible variables to ensure that luck has a minimum impact once we begin to burn the stones." another male voice said calmly.
