Episode 20
The Hospital – Ayobami's Struggle
"Ayobami, Ayobami! Stay with me, baby… Don't give up on us now…" Shola's voice was frantic as he held her hand, his grip desperate. He felt the life slipping from her, and it was something he wasn't ready to face. The world seemed to close in around him as the doctors rushed to get her into the operating room.
"No… no… no… not this time, baby…" His voice trembled as they wheeled her into the theater, the beeping of the heart monitor becoming a haunting echo in his ears. He couldn't understand why fate was playing this cruel game with him.
Oke and Simbi rushed to his side, their faces stricken with worry. But Shola couldn't contain himself. He broke down, his composure slipping like sand through his fingers. The hurt, the pain—everything overwhelmed him in an instant. His knees felt weak, and he crumbled into Simbi's arms.
Tears rolled down his face as he whispered over and over, "Not now… not now…"
Simbi held him tightly, her own tears mixing with his as Oke comforted her. The three of them stood in silence, the weight of the situation heavy in the air. It felt like the entire world had stopped.
Vivian's POV – A Silent Observance
Vivian watched from a distance, her eyes narrowing as she took in the scene. She hadn't expected to feel this much when she arrived at the hospital. But as she watched Shola, something inside her shifted. The man who always seemed in control, so sure of himself—now looked like a broken man. His eyes were dull, his expression empty. It was as if his world had just crumbled in front of him.
She felt a brief flicker of guilt, a pang in her chest that she quickly dismissed. No, I can't afford to feel that. She reminded herself. She had worked so hard to get to this point—she wouldn't let anything get in the way of her plans.
She approached him slowly, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. To her surprise, Shola didn't pull away. Instead, he remained motionless, like a statue. The embrace was cold, devoid of warmth. It was clear his mind was elsewhere, torn apart by the uncertainty of Ayobami's condition.
As Shola muttered something about loving Ayobami more than life itself, Vivian felt her stomach twist with jealousy. This is not how it was supposed to be, she thought. I was supposed to be the one by his side.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams entered the waiting area then, offering their own comfort. They whispered soothing words, trying to ease their son's pain, but he was barely present, lost in his grief. Vivian stood off to the side, watching, but she felt strangely detached.
She was about to leave, unable to stomach the tension in the room, when Shola's phone rang. He picked it up with a lifeless "Elo" to the caller.
"Yeah, you have one of them," he said, sounding distant. "I'll be there now."
Vivian felt her unease deepen. What is he planning now?
As Shola hung up, he seemed ready to leave, but Mrs. Williams stopped him. "Where are you going?"
Shola didn't even look back as he walked toward the door. "I'm going to find the bastard who did this to her," he muttered, his voice full of rage.
Vivian watched him go, but something inside her stirred—a sense of urgency she couldn't ignore. She quickly followed him, needing to get answers.
Shola's POV – Searching for the Truth
Shola's heart was pounding in his chest as he stormed out of the hospital. His mind was a whirlwind of fury, but he knew he needed to stay focused. He had to find the person who did this to Ayobami. He had to make them pay.
He arrived at the police station, a mix of anger and desperation rising inside him. He walked straight to the counter, his eyes dark with frustration. He was here for one thing only—to get to the bottom of this.
The officer in charge led him to a holding cell, where the man responsible for Ayobami's condition was waiting. Shola couldn't control the rage that flared inside him.
He tried to contain it, but before he knew it, his fist shot out and collided with the man's face. The man stumbled back, clutching his nose as blood began to pour.
"Calm down, sir," a police officer said sternly, stepping in between them. "If you don't control yourself, you'll be locked up, too."
Shola's breathing was heavy, his anger still burning. "Tell me who sent you," he demanded, his voice a low growl.
The man groaned but finally spoke. "They were sent by someone… someone from her past."
Shola's eyes narrowed. "Who?"
The man winced, trying to sit up straighter. "Vivian… Vivian sala."
Shola felt a jolt of disbelief. Vivian?
The officer pulled out a notebook and showed Shola a sketch. The details matched perfectly. It was her—the woman he had been trying to move on from.
The realization hit him like a ton of bricks. Vivian had been behind it all. She had orchestrated this attack on Ayobami.
Shola's Shock
He stared at the sketch, his mind racing. Why? Why would Vivian go so far? What was her motive?
The anger that had been simmering inside him for days boiled over. He felt betrayed. Vivian had been pretending to care, all while plotting something like this in the shadows.
But what shocked him more was the fact that Ayobami was still unconscious, still fighting for her life. And Vivian—his past—had a hand in all of it. It was a cruel twist of fate.
With that, Shola stormed out of the station, determined to confront Vivian and uncover the full extent of her betrayal. He wouldn't stop until he had answers.
And in the back of his mind, a chilling thought crossed his mind. What if Ayobami doesn't make it? What if I lose her? The weight of that possibility crushed him, and he knew that nothing would ever be the same again.
He dialed Ayobami's number, desperate to hear her voice, but all he heard was the cold, mechanical voice of the voicemail.
"Ayobami, please… wake up. I need you."
