"You. Answer me. Why the fuck is there a time limit ? You did say that my soul is stabilized right ?"
Beep. System will activate a self-destruction protocol if mission is not accomplished within the given time.
Getting more annoyed, Sierra could only patiently ask, "Ok since I am your owner and creator, I command you to delete this time limit and self-destruction protocol."
Beep. User's level is not high enough to access the system's interface.
"....." If Sierra had any hair, she would have pulled it so hard, just to give her some sort of sanity.
Why did she have to create such an inhuman thing ?!! Mental note - Destroy the fucking thing when I reach a higher level.
Something told her that the next month was going to be a bleak and sad affair. Well, she was already at rock bottom. So whatever ...
There were three hospitals in Janag district. Each of them were one to two hours walking distance apart.
More importantly, one of them is a world famous cancer institute and another one is known for heart transplant surgeries.
So they are pretty good bets for farming the disintegrated souls.
For all purposes, at least in her current state walking and floating speed were approximately the same.
Maybe because she was in a panic, she hadn't realized earlier that she could actually fly and bypass all the traffic. Just had to watch out for the damn birds.
And thus started the long and arduous journey.....
Each disintegrated soul wisp was only stable for about three hours and then just disappeared into nothingness. Poof.
So essentially she had to rotate between the three hospitals at three hour intervals and farm these dead disintegrating soul spirits.
Not many people died everyday. So this was going to be quite troublesome.
Actually she had it wrong. The most troublesome thing was not this long and boring farming, but the scenes she had to witness.
At every fucking death bed, there was a sobbing family. One lucky bastard had even a whole class room lamenting at the hospital room door.
And here she was ... dead and gone.. no one to mourn for her and not a single tear.. Well at least not real ones.
"I am sure that bitch Kenna shed a whole bucket's worth of fake tears. Oh and that reminds me.. What is the point of being a ghost if I can't haunt anyone ??!!" Sierra suddenly had an idea.
"Hey are you there ? What do I get for absorbing 100 souls ?? Do I become stronger ?? Can I move solid objects ? Push a table lamp down ? Drive a knife through a heart ?" Sierra enquired excitedly.
This situation she had going on might not be too bad after all... He he he. Some people are going to get seriously haunted and tormented. He he he.
But unfortunately, the joy from that idea was short lived...
Beep. No reward and no information available.
"Awesome. Pretty fucking great. Now that my soul is stabilized, I can finally go and do some much deserved sight seeing and what not. But no.. I have to work my ass off and farm for souls again, without even any point !!! Great, just great."
After spending a salty and sulky day of farming and more farming, Sierra finally managed to absorb five whole souls. This was not too bad for a day's worth of work.
She had a set routine. She had the timings down. Everything was set. At this rate she will definitely be able to absorb 100 souls by the end of the month.
With each soul absorption, she didn't feel much of a difference.
But when she was around the 80th soul, she definitely felt much more energetic.
In fact, she was sure her floating speed had considerably increased. But there wasn't any sort of notification that followed.
Not minding it, Sierra continued patiently hunting souls one after another, day after day, and she was finally done with the 99th soul.
She had been lucky recently and had actually managed to finish with an entire week left.
Heaving a huge sigh, she stopped the hunting madness and spent a little time exploring the city.
When you were invisible, things sure are different and maybe even a bit interesting. But they can wait.
The first thing she wanted to confirm was in a locally famous Buddhist shrine.
They had all these ghost warding talismans and being a scientist, she was extremely curious how these affected her current status.
Dancing around the shrine for a little more than an hour, in and out, up and down, she was glad to finally conclude that these were all total dummies and completely useless.
Rejoiced, she floated over to the next spot she wanted to reach. This was an important one.
This was something she had thought a lot about and hesitated quite a bit. After all, she had died and moved on to another realm.
Shouldn't she let all the old hatred and enmity disappear ? Isn't that the right thing to do ?
But fuck it. She had been righteous and tried to be rational, lenient and generous all her life. Where did it get her ? She was now a fucking ghost !
Slowly floating over, she reached Kenna's penthouse suite.
