"So I have you for the whole day and night"

"Yes, but ill have to go up at some point lest the guard think I'm lost and go crazy," Aurum said as tried to tame her wild hair soft curls resisting puffing out like a lion's mane

"Ugh..." she groaned giving up pulling up a brush from thin air, Draen watched as she brushed it away from her face tying it up in a messy bun, he wanted to run his fingers through her hair.

"when I get out of here I'm gonna do that."

"Brush my hair?"

he nodded.

Aurum laughed.

"Alright, I think I'd like having a massive predator brush my morning bed head," she laughed till tears were in her eyes as Draen listened to the sound, noticing the unusual quiet.

"Why is it so quiet?"

"Most of the army is gone it's basically just us and a handful of guards the castle maids... this place is pretty empty actually,"

Draen was still concerned about the steps he'd heard earlier but Aurum was sure it was just a mouse or a rat, he still refused to let it go.

"Draen calm down there's nothing there..."

"I know I heard something,"

"I'm not saying you didn't but if it's that much of a bother I could go check it out.."

"No, if it comes back I'll roast it,"

"Have you noticed how a lot of your solutions end in fire?"

"No, they don't,"

"What do you want to do to Blaine?"

"Burn the flesh off his bones,"

Aurum arched a brow.

" I see your point..."

"As I knew you would because I am always right,"

he smiled at her skewed logic and Aurum beamed before becoming serious, "Draen, how are we going to get you out of this thing, I don't even see a door...how'd you even get in there?"

"I was unconscious at the time, but I've seen others in these." he glanced at the bars, "Its a rather long spell, the bars would lose their enchantment if I knew the trigger word..."

"Anything else?"

"Well...if a dragon is 'strong' enough they can rip through the bars, it is rare but I've seen it done before."

He was in a sense proud of the memory, a thief had been caught caged and sentenced to the iron mines but he had someone waiting for him and he couldn't just disappear without a word, so as they dragged him away he tore that cage open and fled, he returned the next day happy to go knowing that whoever he had would wait for him it was a girl of red hair.

She had stood behind him tears falling but keeping her smile bright, she was staying strong for her beloved.

He pardoned the man and got him a job much to his sister's annoyance,

"Not sure how I can help with that..." Aurum trailed,

"Actually, you just being here is enough, I don't even think I need the sun anymore." his heart skipped a beat when Aurum met his gaze, "just knowing you're around is more than enough."

"That's not fair, the competition ended yesterday," she stood up and began to pace Draen followed her movements, "You can't keep saying things like that or I'll fall for you harder than I already am,"

"You're falling for me?" he asked happily staring up at Aurum with his eyes shining

"Of course I am and that's frightening."

"I promise to catch you when you do,"

"Oh, shut up," she covered her face, "Stop making things out to seem okay, things haven't been okay since I got here,"

"Does your family know where you are?"

"Never had any family it was always me and Hyca, and he's dead." the word felt bitter in her mouth, it was her fault, her friend had deserved so much better...

"Hyca?" Draen asked Arum's thoughts quieted focusing on the dragon,

"My best friend got killed buying me some time to escape, I turned back to get him but he was already dying, wasted his last deed by getting caught,"

"Do you want to talk about him?"

Aurum smiled, it was a sad one remembering her fuzzy companion, "He was a wolf, didn't like the term pet so much neither did I, he was such a fuzzy idiot but he learned a lot of tricks, slept all day, destroyed my house at night, helped out where he could he was such a good dog helping me cart around the flowers for our shop. Broke a lot of my stuff though, I always wondered how I could sleep through it, took me weeks to realize he was trying to get his ball from the top shelf of my cupboard, we were taking a walk when they attacked I would have been dead if we were there. I was picking some roses I wanted to cross when I saw the smoke and we ran back, but everything was ruined when we got there the arrows were still falling I was hit as we ran and I don't even know where we were running to, everyone else was dead I just thought we had to get away so we ran, I'd give anything to get him back, he didn't deserve to die that way."

"He suffered," Draen said,

Aurum nodded eyes glaring at the floor,

"Blaine ran him through when he charged at him, he fought so hard and for what? I was still caught," Aurum wanted to cry, she finally got to talk about that day finally got to get some of the anger and sadness out,

It felt pleasant like a balm on her soul.

"For what its worth, he fought because he knew you'd do the same, which you did and I'm sorry." Aurum smiled Draen had eased a lot of her pain just by existing, being there to listen, she felt her heartwarming up to the thought of being given away.

"Thank you," she said reaching a hand through the bars the heat was incredibly uncomfortable as she placed a gentle hand over Draen's a genuine smile on her face, "What about you? Anyone you miss?"

Draen thought about it and shook his head

"My sister is a psychotic bitch, my parents took off when I was two hundred my grandfather is dead, I really don't miss my family," he said, "I do miss flying though,"

"What's that like?"

A longing look filled his eyes.

"Free, you feel so free it's like nothing can harm you," he smiled, "I'll take you with me and we'll circle the globe, have you ever seen Liathe trees they're white and pink there are entire forests filled with them it's like being in another world,"

"Really?!" Aurum sat back down excited, "Can I bring one back? How long do they take to grow? That would look so beautiful surrounded by Osiris roses, or peach blossoms, how big do they get? Can it fit indoors?"

"No they cant one grows to be about the size of an oak but they grow fast,"

"Its a date then!"

Draen smiled watching Aurum launch into an overly animated talk about her garden happy to have someone listen to her as she went on and on about a new flower she'd planted that just kept wilting every other day, how she couldn't wait for it to grow enough to bloom, purple blossoms.

Draen missed the name it was long and he didn't want to interrupt Aurum till he got to a point where he wanted to show her some of the flowers he'd seen, granted he didn't know their names and had never been interested in them except in passing fancy but he knew Aurum would flip especially a gigantic blue one he saw when he flew west.

He suggested it and Aurum glowed the brightest he had seen her, "I've never seen an actual blue flower! Maybe its a type of rose I could cross it with a regular one and see if it goes anywhere might not but its worth a try!"

Hope, he realized this is what Aurum looked like when she was filled with hope, it was incredible, a simple promise had brought out this side of her, one he fully intended to keep.

He realized that when it came to Aurum he would actually give his best to be the person Aurum deserved even cross a sea of monsters just to show her a rose.

And he realized then that somewhere in between the days he'd been there he would gladly be imprisoned all over again, he'd even hand his sister a club to knock him out if it meant finding Aurum again, hell he'd do it himself. He'd go through hell and burn in a pool of Dragon steel, even learn how to swim across the ocean if Aurum was on the other side with that bright smile waiting for him, he would do anything for the Fae, anything she wanted.
