Budgets

"Carious?" John asked and Jian nods saying, "Slightly." He smiles explaining, "Uncle's think of investing in a few properties in Italy, and these are a few locations he wants, my job is to work with the finance department and create three types of plans, first the most cost effective, second the most luxurious, and third, the highest quality."

"Why not a combination of all three to cut time?" Jian asked and John smiled explaining, "Because what if we need a cost-effective plan for one location to balance out the extra cost for another, let's see, this place is near a highly popular monument."

He picked up a few papers displaying a building that was in a deep ally and in front of it many people walking by as he explained, "If we want it to match the incoming traffic, we will require long lasting and higher quality structure thus we need to use quality building materials instead of luxurious or cost-effective ones. This way we prevent having to do repairs often and can put the repair budget into getting more staff so that everyone is well served."

Jian nods asking, "Then why make the cost-effective budget or the luxurious one for this property?" He smiles glancing up at her saying, "To prepare for any sudden increase or decrease in pricing, let's say we get a higher budget then we can add some items from the luxurious budget, but if we experience price increase without a budget increase, we need to be prepared to cut cost, without having to let go of the staffs."

Jian nods glancing at the paperwork, and he smiled at her reaction, she felt this was over compilating a simple process, so John reached out to hold her hand asking, "You think this is too much huh?"

"Yes, instead of creating three separate budgets, why not have alternatives for the categories and have them the ordered by price," she said, and he waits as she pulls a paper while she continues to explain saying, "This property, we know it has a lot of traffic so have the budget be focused on mainly quality of the building and it's staff rather than focused on adding luxury, why because we know that the people need this building especially since it's so busy here. Thus, even if this isn't the most luxurious you are grantees clients, who will stay and once you get a steady income, profit generating then start with remodeling the building section by section."

John nods asking, "Let's say that you chose the most cost-effective but highest quality materials, but the design is too simple, so what would happen then?" Jian takes a few seconds before saying, "People would ignore it because it's plain, yet I am not saying make it plain."

She sighed pulling her hand away as she went through the different pictures before pulling out a few and explaining, "Here, detailed design like so can be added if we find architects who can add large murals and artists to paint them in a similar style but with different subjects. The construction might be a little difficult, but this way people have something to talk about and share, especially on social media. The building gets free advertising as something that's a work of art."

Jian glanced at him he was looking at her with a new expression and she blinked before his smile grew and he turned his head glancing at the papers on the table saying, "Jian, this is a very creative idea to add to the property, but it still doesn't explain how I should not create all three of the budgets."

Jian sighed saying, "I am saying instead of three separate budgets, have one plan with multiple options for each item or category." He nods asking, "What if our investors don't agree with the ideas and want alternatives budgets?" Jian shrugged saying, "I guess that's when you explain what a waste of time it is to create three separate budgets."

He laughed and she smiled saying, "I was only a little carious about the work you do, but it seems you mostly waste your time here." He smiles saying, "If uncle heard you say that he would be angry."

"Say what," a familiar voice said, and Selena put the spoon down before she got off the chair walking running towards the two by the door.
