It was 7 pm when Diya arrived at the restaurant. Her family was already there.
"Sis!" Her sister, Pari, exclaimed happily after seeing her. Diya waved back and greeted everyone.
"How are you? Why are you not calling us often?" Her grandmother, Nila, started to ask questions the next second Diya sat at the table.
"Enough ma, let's eat first." Diya's father said shushing his mother.
After the food arrived, they started to eat quietly. "Diya, marriage is not something bad. You should get married faster so you can have kids. You are already 26." Nila said wiping her mouth with a handkerchief.
Diya sighed. "I don't want to. Why can't you understand?" Her grandmother gave her a displeased look.
A few tables away, two men were looking at this family while having their dinner. "Boss, isn't that the girl we saw that day at the cafe? The one you smiled at?" Karl asked Ajay; chewing on his steak. Karl could feel an icy stare on him. "Aiyaa. Stop glaring. I'm going to freeze from all the ice that's coming my way.".
Ajay ignored him and focused on the girl. He could say that the people with her are her family. But somehow she looked like she wanted to get out of there as fast as she could.
That was exactly how Diya felt at that moment. She could blow up any moment now from the pressure her family was giving her. "You should consider what your grandma's saying, Diya," Balu said. Diya's mother kept silent and continued to play with her food. Diya can't blame her. No one will listen to her even if she says something.
"Dad, I know what I'm doing. I have a job, a car, and a house. I'm fine on my own.". "So what if you have all this? Everyone will start talking badly about you. Not only about you, but they would also talk about me and your dad," Nila said raising her voice.
"So what? I don't care about what others say." Diya said crossing her hands. "You shouldn't force me to do things because of others."
"Looks like they're fighting," Karl whispered covering his face from one side. "Karl, do you want me to throw you out?" Ajay asked in a dangerous tone.
"Like you own this damn place." Ajay raised his eyebrow slightly. "I do." Karl's jaw dropped. "Woah. So we're here to see 'your property'? Here I thought you asked me out on a brotherly date. It's my fault for thinking that you've changed.". He said wiping his invisible tears.
Ajay shook his head at his childish tactics and turned his attention back to Diya.
Diya was reaching her limit at this point. This is why she avoided as many family dinners as possible. Whenever Tasha started to say something to defend her, Diya stopped her. She didn't want Tasha to be on the receiving end.
