The Start 2

"Let's go, I'll tell you your job. It was not mentioned in the job acceptance letter and I thought you wouldn't reply to us," he opened the door of his office for Sheen, "Come in."

Sheen entered the room, the lights were off, but you can clearly see the city lights and the stars from the glass wall.

She suddenly felt excited about the beauty of the architecture.

There was a blue light coming from the right side and there she saw the most mesmerizing thing she will ever lay her eyes on.

The whole wall of the right side of the office is an aquarium.

She slowly walks towards it, there were a lot of fishes that she doesn't know.

But all were beautiful, with the light and the ambiance of the office.

She somehow felt comfortable that she can almost lay down the floor and sleep since she hasn't sleep last night.

"You're enjoying my office, I see," Mr. White sits down the couch which faces the aquarium.

"Sorry, Sir," she said and then looked down.

"You've been saying sorry all this time, you may sit, Miss Verrez," he assures Sheen with a smile.

Sheen then took a sit of the couch beside Wyn. She did make sure that there is a space between them to avoid awkwardness.

"Can I ask you why you moved from the top publishing company?" Mr. White watches the fishes swim around while waiting for Sheen's reply.

"I, uh, because I don't like it there, I mean, I am having troubles, it's because," Sheen started to stutter.

"If you can't tell me, that's fine. I just hope that you mean well in your leaving."

Sheen looked at Mr. White, "Sir, can I ask you, what was the job?"

Since she got inside the building, she often loses her mind somewhere and she became unattentive to her environment.

She thought the President already said what her job is and she's not paying attention.

"Oh, yes, I forgot to tell you, you're my assistant. Don't worry, you can still write when I am doing my work here. Your office is on the other side of the hallway," Mr. White stands up, reaching for the keys to the office opposite to his.

"Assistant?" Sheen stands up, she did not mean to be rude about her job, but from what she knows, she will not be qualified for this job.

"Yes, don't worry. I'll tell you what you need to do, so don't feel pressured. About the book that you are working on, I heard it from Bea," Sheen suddenly felt embarrassed.

"You can still continue on writing it using your old publishing company's name."

Mr. White then gave Sheen the keys, "You can go now, you'll start tomorrow."

The lights of the city light behind the president, and the only light coming from the aquarium, Sheen felt like her heart started beating fast while looking at Mr. White.

"Sir, have we met before?" Sheen asks.

Both of them are standing face to face.

"Yes, and I won't tell you when and where. You'll soon find out," He said while smiling.

Sheen's face suddenly heats up and her eyes felt blessed to be seeing the man right in front of her.

She then turned away to hide her red-dyed face from the light when she saw a picture of a little boy on the table.

Mr. White noticed that she was staring at the photo, "That's my son," he said.

'Son?' Sheen thought, 'Aw, I need to back down.'

"His mother died during childbirth, she was too young to give birth. I was 22 back then, she's 17. It was a mistake, we both got drunk in the bar and now I have a son," Mr. White said.

He remembered that day when he found out he has a son from the unknown girl.

He did not like her.

She's a child.

It was his mistake.

The girl did not have any relatives and it was a pure accident that they met that night.

Even though it's been six years, he can't still forget about what the girl said before dying, 'Please, love him. Give him what I did not have, give him a family.'

"Sir, Sir," Sheen's been calling him but it seems like he was in his thoughts.

"Sorry, what is it?" Mr. White went to open the lights of the office, blinding Sheen for a second.

"I will go home, it's getting late."

She checked her phone and saw 14 miss calls from Bea and 2 from Wyn.

'Crap, I forgot to update Wyn,' she thought.

"Okay, I'll ask the company driver to drop you to your place. I can't go home with you tonight," Mr. White answered while dialing the driver's number.

Sheen got confused with what Mr. White said, making her eyebrow furrow.

Mr. White noticed that his words weren't clear and it does not make sense for Sheen, "You and I have the same condominium building, you can go home with me some other time to save your time waiting for a cab, it's hard to get a cab in this area."

Sheen slowly nods, "Then, I'll be going," she was about to open the door when Mr. White grabbed his coat, "I'll go down with you, there's no one else here to accompany you."

Mr. White opened the door and Sheen followed. She slowly walks along the hallway admiring the architecture of the building and the city while Mr. White locks his office.

"It's really pretty," she whispered while taking pictures.

"Yes, my father is the one who wanted to have glass walls."

They went to take the elevator in silence.

It was not awkward.

It seems like she's been with Mr. White for a long time that silence does not bother her anymore.

'So, he's not in a relationship? He's a single dad? Maybe that's why he looks so authorizing. He got a son,' she thought.

They arrived at the ground floor and bid farewell to each other.

Sheen was instructed to wait for a certain plate number in the entrance and that will be her ride home.

After a few minutes, it did arrive.

While on the way home, she decided to call Bea and told her she's going home and even asks what the driver's name is for Bea to assure that she knows who the driver is.

Good thing the driver was one of Bea's close friend in the company.

If he was not, and he's a new guy, Bea might've told Sheen to go out of the car and ride a cab since she does not trust the driver.

"So, do you remember him?" Bea asks on the phone.

"No, but he told me that we met before."

"Yeah, you did. I won't tell you but I know you'll find out soon."
