Part 2 : a Special Mission

The deadly character Epsilon arrived at the hidden main center—an underground facility located in one of the restricted zones of the Mysterious Land.

He glanced left and right cautiously, scanning the area, wary of being followed by a member of the Criminal Hunters force.

The agent entered in complete secrecy… only to encounter a figure standing in the middle of the main hallway, right at the entrance of the center.

The look on Epsilon's face made it clear—he was resentful. It was the last person he wanted to see.

With malicious features...

Narrowed, scheming eyes...

Eyebrows that, according to physiognomy, were the devil's eyebrows...

The man was none other than the first counselor of the Deadly Characters Squad

Or rather...

Deadly Character Beta.

The counselor was in his early thirties—a proud, arrogant man who looked down on ordinary citizens. He believed he was above them, having descended from one of the old aristocratic families, and his brutal methods were infamous across the continent.

Beta wasn't just a counselor. He was considered the head of the Deadly Characters Squad, responsible for writing detailed reports and keeping track of squad members—especially in cases of suspected rebellion or disobedience.

As Epsilon passed him, he noticed something strange: Beta was wearing a necklace. A picture hung from it—of a woman. Epsilon couldn't make out the facial features clearly, but the image stirred something in his memory.

"Hmm? A necklace? I've never seen him wear that before. Why does it look so familiar...?"

Still, Epsilon didn't dwell on it long. He hated everything about that man anyway.

…!

"Oh, look who's here…"

"The deadly character Epsilon," Beta sneered, oozing sarcasm. "The agent feared by the most powerful gangs and international organizations. Hah… wasn't he recently sent on a mission to eliminate a trainee from the Criminal Hunters? But alas... he failed! And so, I was sent to clean up his mess…"

[In a strange trance] "Ahhh, if only you had seen the blood flowing from—"

Epsilon suddenly stopped walking, cutting him off mid-sentence.

With a contemptuous tone...

And cold, piercing eyes...

Epsilon said:

"I see the Organization knows exactly how weak and cowardly you are. That's why they chose you, of all people. Killing a little kid… it's the only thing you're good at."

…?

Whoa!

That was a real insult—especially coming from someone Beta despised!

Even though Beta held a leadership role in the squad, he couldn't challenge Epsilon so easily. The difference in their positions was obvious.

But how?

How could Epsilon, a field agent, hold more power than Beta, the squad's counselor?

It was simple—this wasn't a normal hierarchy.

In the Special Organization, power wasn't based on title.

It was based on talent.

And Epsilon… was no ordinary agent.

Beta's face turned red with rage. His resentment was visible—he looked like he was about to explode.

"B-Bastard!! H-How dare you—!"

But Epsilon glared back with a terrifying intensity, his eyes burning with raw killing intent. His voice dropped to a chilling tone as he delivered his final words before walking away:

"When the farce between the Organization and the Criminal Hunters ends... I'll make sure I'm the first to shed your filthy blood."

Beta froze.

He stood there, speechless—completely still, as though his mind had gone blank. He couldn't move, couldn't think. All he could do was curse Epsilon internally.

"Unforgivable… This is unforgivable... One day, I'll end your existence. You or me... one of us must die. Epsilon."

Epsilon moved on, heading to the Orders Office to register his presence and collect his next assignment.

Once he received the sealed envelope, he opened it and read the contents:
