Nelly, Samantha's mommy looked at her sleeping daughter on the floor, then turned to her husbad Francis staring blankly at the roof top. Tears rolled down her cheeks not knowing what to do anymore. They had not eaten anything for the last three days. Their lips dry and cracked, the three looked lifeless. The drought and famine in the land was unbearable. Following the previous year bloodshed due to unfair elections the wrath of the gods had befall the country. The evergreen land looked deserted, trees had withered and later on dried due to lack of rain for one and a half years. The large rivers and lakes were at the verge of drying not considering the stream which did not survive the first three months of the drought. Nelly would wake up very early to walk over six kilometers to look for water and food. The united nations had been offering good to the families but the severity of the situation was beyond control. It had been a month since the last donations. Nelly had preserved the one kg porriage floor for her daughter. At this juncture nothing she could only wait for her fate. She felt too exhausted yet chose not to eat the porridge for her daughter's sake. When Samantha woke up she looked at her mother lying on the cold soil floor. At fast she thought she was still asleep but time passed by she lost her patience.
