"Sorry, what?"
The person on the other side started shrieking:
"Goodness! Don't tell me you've just woke up! How can you be late! I even called you yesterday to remind you about the date! Come on!"
Now, Anoi finally remembered what day it was. Today, her friend set her up on date with some stranger, who was apparently an old friend of Jackie, in fact he was her deskmate since grade school. He was attractive, young and what's more, he "supposedly" had a very similar character to that of Anoi.
In reality, Anoi had already started dating; she just kept it a secret from everyone else. Not because she didn't want to tell others, but because her partner requested her not to.
So, in her original life, when Jackie called her to a blind date, she at first didn't know how to explain. In the end, Anoi simply decided to ignore Jackie's calls and never showed up to the café where the date was taking place. Later this became quite a stain on their friendship: Jackie was very mad at her. Actually, the girl didn't mind being kept in the dark, it's just that she was very angry for her male friend, whom Anoi stood up. Turned out the guy was pretty stubborn and didn't leave until very late at night, persisting on seeing Anoi or something like that. Moreover, the date almost ruined the relations between Jackie and her school friend.
Anoi pondered for a second. She was reborn after she had already started dating and the guy hadn't broken up with her yet, so, officially, their relationship was still going. And yet, the girl knew that their bond was fruitless and that he would leave her in the future. Her feelings for him had cooled off the moment he said they should stop, and were long gone ever since. Surprisingly ot not, she had no particular interest in changing their fate after being reborn, and "keeping" him.
Anoi decided to come. Sure, she felt bad for not being sincere in attending the date. Yet, she was desperate to remember more, and she was searching for answers. Jackie was the best person for ask for information. Meeting with her is the most urgent thing on the to-do list.
Anoi wanted to face her "new" life with confidence and determination, and said in a bright voice, "Alright, message me an address, I'll be there in an hour."
Yet this didn't please Jackie.
"What??" she shouted, "Yeah, sure I can message you the address, since you're an empty-head, but what do you mean you'll be in an hour?? The date will arrive in 8 minutes!"
Anoi shrugged her shoulders, imagining the nasty expression on her friend's face.
"Too bad, I guess? Keep him busy then. You're buddies, right? There must be lots of things you can talk about. I'll come when I'm ready. But don't leave. Later we'll need to chat."
Anoi hung up and payed no attention to the incoming calls from her furious bestie.
Maybe that was rude (okay, that was actually pretty rude), but she didn't care being late. Her goal isn't the date anyway, the one she wanted to talk to is Jackie. And she didn't have a slightest interest in the guy invited.
Anoi turned to her closet. Even though she didn't care for the date, she was not going to show up untidy. There was also a grain of curiosity concerning what outfits there were.
The mirror made her remember the reality of a previous life: after countless lonesome nights, full of work and stress-eating, her body was soft like a marshmallow - barely any muscles and fat everywhere. Following her rebirth, her figure returned to a previous state, which was fortunate - her body now, though still had leftover fat, and didn't have much muscle, was overall in a much better shape.
Anoi opened her closet and was faced with a great disappointment: all the clothes were bland and the colors were rather depressing. What's more, just by glancing at them once, the girl could tell the clothes wouldn't suit her. She tried a few of them on and indeed, they made her appear bulky and unkempt. What a bother.
