It surprised him to see how frightened the girl in front of him was. He didn't understand why, when he sat down, she refused to meet his eyes. This attitude contrasted greatly with what he saw before. Just a second ago, she was joking around with others, and now, her face was contorted in fear, and perchance, in worry.
He didn't fail to notice the changes in her breathing.
Was she worried about being late?
Lint had to admit, he was quite annoyed that he had to wait in the café for such a long time, but, now, after seeing this trembling delicate figure, he was hesitating to reprimand her.
"Anoi, his name is Lint. He's Shad's friend that we were talking about." Jackie introduced them to each other and helplessly sighed out.
Anoi finally broke free from her memories and nodded to the man in front of her, advertently avoiding his attempt of shaking her hand. Perhaps, he had noticed she did that intentionally, but she couldn't care less. She found his touch repulsive.
Although the man in front of her wasn't the same Lint who killed her, and now that she was reborn, she would eliminate the possibility of her being murdered by him, he still reminded Anoi of the way she died. Thinking like this, Anoi took a deep breath and suppressed the fear in her heart. Maybe it was because she had already died once, it was fairly easy to do.
That's right! This man is different, he hadn't killed her yet, and he never will. He's not the Lint from the past.
Anoi met his gaze with determination and scrutinized the handsome face in front of her.
His features weren't as sharp as they would become in 5 years, and the cruelty of his nature couldn't yet be traced.
She relaxed and let go of her dark thoughts. What "revenge"? What "kill Lint before he kills me?" She wasn't reborn just to spend her second life in prison.
This Lint didn't kill her. She will leave it at that and move on.
"So, why where you late?" Jackie's voice brought her back.
"Oh, I was shopping." She smiled. "You see, none of the clothes at home suit me anymore."
She did not know that at this moment, she wiped out the little sympathy and pity that Lint had for her.
This woman! She was actually out, buying rugs?? While he was wasting his precious time, waiting on her?? Lint's face darkened.
"I am sorry to shatter your hopes, but it's doubting anything will be of help in your case." He said, mercilessly.
Anoi was startled. He may not have killed her yet, but this man is nonetheless obnoxious. Was she a fool to change her mind and want to start anew?
Sure, for her point of view the body was in a faitly good shape, but that's because she was comparing it to the one she had before. Of course, when compared to models that Shad and Lint was used to facing everyday, she was far inferior. She was still fat on an average scale too.
Lint's remark angered Anoi. She did not like others pointing out her weight and ever since she gained a lot of it in her previous lifetime, she became quite sensitive when it concerned her looks. Although now, Anoi was determined to change, it hurt a bit to be pointed out her flaws.
"And, even if they did, an attractive wrapping will not make a candy taste any less rotten." Lint delivered a final blow. Not only did he criticize her looks, he also pointed out how rude it was of her to make him wait.
Anoi grimaced.
"I too, believe that clothes do not make a person." She viciously retorted and sized him up with an up-down stare. She mocked his fashionable clothes that didn't suit the casual café atmosphere.
And just before he wanted to say something else, she leaned over, and whispered so that only he could hear her:
"And, don't worry about the rotten aftertaste. Because you won't be the one to eat this candy."
