At last, after 24 hours of observation, all six candidates showed signs of recovery. In fact, they were better than before.
"Dr. Brischt, any updates?" General Nushka's impatience was obvious.
"Actually, Generals, they are recovering smoothly, as expected. Their bodies show no signs of side effects. They were absolutely fine the moment they opened their eyes. They remember every detail from yesterday. Both physically and mentally, they're stable, for now." Dr. Brischt laid out visual evidence of all six bioweapons: their sudden pale skin, heightened senses, everything. "We tried checking their pulse rates, but none of them have pulses at all. Their teeth remain intact with no visible fangs. It seems the fangs retract when they're in human form and only show when they're enraged. I still need to run further tests on their behavior and development. If you allow me, I'd like to take BW-001 to the laboratory for testing."
"Alright, Dr. Brischt. If necessary, we won't hold you back," General Yang said, signaling him to proceed with BW-001.
"Who are you to permit him when BW-001 is under my jurisdiction?" General Nushka snapped, glaring at General Yang.
"Don't take it personally, Nushka. We're still one inside this facility. When we part ways, no one will tell you what to do," Yang retorted coldly.
The atmosphere in the viewing room was thick with tension.
"Everyone, calm down," General Johanssen ordered, eyes glued to the screen as Dr. Brischt escorted BW-001 into the lab. "We'll settle personal disputes later. Right now, our priority is the bioweapons, not childish arguments. Let Dr. Brischt do his work."
Since waking, the bioweapons hadn't spoken a word. They often spaced out, sometimes sitting quietly in corners, silently observing their surroundings. No signs of vampiric personality or bloodlust appeared. Since the serum injection, they were no longer treated as humans but as guinea pigs under tight surveillance. The generals had their own secret plans for these bioweapons, weaponizing them as military assets. Only six countries knew about the project, and only six could acquire these weapons.
Meanwhile, Dr. Brischt tried to draw blood from BW-001, but the needle bent every time he tried. Unable to extract blood, he decided to run an MRI.
As BW-001 was about to lie down, a distracted doctor bumped into Dr. Brischt, causing him to fall and knock over several beakers and vials. He cut his hand trying to catch himself.
The scent of blood triggered BW-001's heightened senses. His eyes flashed red, veins bulging, his blood boiling inside. His fangs appeared, and he lost control, attacking Dr. Brischt and biting deeply into the doctor's bleeding palm.
Thirst unquenched, BW-001 grabbed another doctor, sinking his fangs into the neck and draining him dry. Soon, everyone in the lab became a blood source for the rampaging bioweapon.
Security was alerted, and doctors were ordered to hide. Guards drew silver bullets, the only effective weapon against the bioweapons.
Dr. Brischt recalled how, while preparing the serum, he accidentally dropped his silver necklace into the formula. The serum instantly became watery. Removing the silver restored it to normal. The serum reacted with silver, reducing its potency. To maintain security, he instructed the generals to arm personnel with silver bullets.
The other bioweapons, drawn by the scent of blood, began rampaging as well. They tore down doors, hunting everyone like hungry predators. They drained their victims' blood, moving so fast that even armed men couldn't shoot them. To all inside Tristan da Cunha's secret facility, death was certain.
BW-001 (Slacovich), BW-002 (Sofie), and BW-006 (Tyler), three of the bioweapons, headed to the viewing room. Sated for now, they reverted to normal but remained emotionless, unable to feel fear or regret for their victims. They were monsters capable of wiping out human existence if unchecked.
Outside the viewing room, the trio found the generals surrounded by a few armed guards ready to fire. Slacovich kicked the secured door open and approached the generals from behind. Distracted, the guards were vulnerable to the other two waiting for their chance.
Sofie disarmed the guards, choking one to death. Tyler kicked another aside and sealed the door. Slacovich forced the generals into their seats, then sat on the table's edge, eyes fixed on the trembling General Buhaden.
"I didn't know generals could be scaredy cats," he taunted.
"W-why did you attack everyone?" General Johanssen asked, voice shaking.
"Why? Why ask?" Slacovich sneered, exaggerating his tone.
"Slacovich, a heartless man cares only for himself. You even dragged me into this trivial project," Tyler's expression darkened.
"Son, you know it's for your own good," General Johanssen pleaded.
"Now you call me your son? Aren't we just bioweapons to boost your military power? You told me this was the only way to save my life. I would have believed you if not for what I discovered while I waited to recover. You poisoned me, a poison attacking the heart. That heart transplant I had three years ago was a success, but you brainwashed me with lies for your own gain. What a good father you are." Tyler grabbed his father by the neck, lifting him off the chair, eyes glowing red, fangs bared. But he stopped, dropping him instead.
"Tyler, you'll get your revenge… after we deal with them," Slacovich grinned evilly.
"General Prius, I hold no grudge against you, but you need to die. In fact, all of you must die. Everyone who knows about our existence must die." Sofie smiled sweetly as she spoke.
"Where's the list of people involved in this project?" Slacovich demanded, eyes hard.
The generals stayed silent, unwilling to give up their secrets.
Slacovich slammed the table and threw General Cloutier against the wall, killing him instantly.
Still no answers.
Fangs sinking into General Buhaden's neck, Slacovich drained him dry.
The others didn't fear death, they would keep the secrets to the grave.
"One last time, before I lose my patience: Where is the list of perso, "
"I got it." Li, Diego, and Ara appeared, holding a flash drive.
"Everything?" Slacovich asked.
"Piece of cake. Fundings, doctors' names, investors, everything about this hellish place." Li handed over the drive.
"Good job, Li." He ruffled her hair and stood, giving the generals a final look.
"What now?" General Prius asked.
"That's for us to decide. For now, we've decided to erase our existence. No one will know what we are. To do that, we must eliminate everyone who knows about the project and the facility."
"To add, we'll take care of the riches you left us," Ara giggled.
"We'll clean up this damn place, it'll be our headquarters after a few renovations," Diego added.
"Then let's start by making sure no one escapes." Slacovich led the way out.
The others feasted, wasting no blood. Every person in the facility was killed overnight, except one.
As BW-001 attacked Dr. Brischt, she sneaked away to the vault. Using Dr. Brischt's ID card and the combination she learned from sharing his bed the previous night, she grabbed the last vial of serum and detailed information about the formula.
She went to the basement and operated the submarine she arrived in.
But Slacovich knew she was the sole survivor of the massacre.
"Dr. Spencer, what a cunning woman. You were my target before. You still are," Slacovich thought, grinning.
