Chapter 62

"What? Why are you looking so pale?" Abdul noticed her behaviour. "Madam, these things are very common here." And he took the report back.

"Sir, can I take a look at this report? Please sir. I just want to see the photograph," she begged, almost crying.

"I am sorry. I can't show it to you."

"Okay, don't show me. But can you tell me about the woman's vital statistics?"

"I am sorry, lady!" he retorted.

She continued her questions.

"Is her height 5' 2"? Her hair is shoulder length? Does she have a scar on her wrist? Does she have brown eyes?"

Abdul got the jolt of his life! He became quiet, which was enough to convince the parents.

He looked at the whiteboard again. He slowly got up and wrote Shonali – the missing link. Everything was becoming clear to him now. He left the family to mourn and went to gather some more evidence. He called Rohan and told him to stay cautious but to remember Murphy's Law.

He asked the other officer on duty to take care of the family and to take them to their daughter for identification.

It was evening before Rohan could calm down. He knew he had to get himself together, as this would ruin him. He wanted to take Sneha away from this insane world to a place where both of them would be safe. "Let this be over!" he thought.

Sneha had prepared dinner early that day. She wanted him to go to sleep early so that his tension would ease. She understood his feelings for her. After dinner she went to sit by his side and softly rubbed his head. Rohan fell asleep within minutes. She smiled and left to wash the dirty dishes. "When this is over, I am going to start my residency at Jodhpur. I won't go anywhere and I will ensure that Rohan stays with me at Jodhpur." She smiled at her plans.

Sneha retired to bed soon after.

In the middle of the night, the doorbell rang again. Since Rohan didn't wake up, she decided not to disturb him again and went to answer it herself. This time she was determined to open it immediately. "Who would create such a nuisance? I am going to take this kid by his collar and take him to his parents!"

She looked through the peephole and was stunned to see Stella standing there.

"Open up, Rohan! I know you are there. I know your wife is also there. I heard you guys arguing softly. Trust me, I wasn't prepared for her yesterday so I had to hide when you opened the door. But hey, guess what? I am prepared today."

She started laughing.

Sneha ran inside to wake up Rohan. She stammered, "Ste…lla… is there at the door!"

He knew he wasn't hallucinating! He called the police station immediately and informed them about Stella. He hoped to speak to Abdul, but Abdul wasn't answering his phone.

"Now what will I do?" he thought.

She continued to bang on the door loudly. "Open up! What are you afraid of?"

"Look Stella, I am sorry. But right now just go away. We will talk in the morning. I promise we will sort this matter out."

All of a sudden a bullet hit the door handle. Rohan jumped back. The door didn't open. Rohan took advantage of the opportunity and tried to put the sofa behind the door. However, he was unsuccessful, as she had already made her way inside their apartment.

She was pointing the gun at Rohan when she saw Sneha right behind him. "Oh, you vile, vile creature. None of this would have happened if you hadn't stepped into our lives. Why didn't you die that day? I was so sure you had died! There was no movement. Hell, it was so perfect!"

"You have ruined my life. I am going to take you down first." With that she fired a shot towards Sneha, but missed by inches. Sneha ran inside the bedroom. Rohan, in the meantime, got hold of a small chair and threw it at Stella. Stella lost her balance and fell onto the floor. Rohan took advantage of the situation and leaped on Stella. He slapped her to gain control over her, but she was too smart. She kicked him in the stomach hard. He lay down in agony.
