It's a conspiracy!

"You signed the contract just like that? What if you don't like the girl?" Grandpa Xi had wide-open eyes and his lips curved in a smirk.

Xi Men Yan gave him a flat look, "One day or the other I have to get married to someone so why not the one whom you selected for me? Not only it will help me keep my money but because of her family background she will prove to be a good investment as well." he picked up an apple and started walking away.

Grandpa Xi threw an apple at his back but like the previous one he caught this one with ease as well, "That infuriating idiot!" he shouted and then turned towards his daughter in law, "Mei, what did you eat when you were pregnant with this idiot?"

"Ah, Dad..." Xi Mei didn't know how to respond. Thankfully her husband diverted the topic, "You see Dad how he is like. Do you think that this marriage that you have planned will be a success?"

Grandpa Xi looked at his son with a huge grin on his face, "Haven't you met Jia? She will be perfect for this stone hearted son of yours. She will fill his monochrome life with colors. He needs some drama in his life and Jia will provide him with it." he laughed while his son and daughter-in-law laughed along with him but just a tad bit nervously.

Jia was in her room and on her bed. She was lying on her back with face up as she stared at Xi Men Yan's photograph in her hands. Her father had given the photograph to hers and damn! Did she mention that this guy was a perfect real-life example of how handsome those male protagonists from her books are? She could use him as a reference even.

"This Men Yan looks quite manly." she giggled at her own stupid comment.

"But you cannot judge one's character from his handsome looks only. Hhmm.." she sat up on the bed and placed the photograph side, "Internet will tell lies more than the truths. Aarrgghh..is this how it feels when your life sucks?!"

She was contemplating about how to find more about Xi Men Yan when her cell phone went off, "Ah! I am so pitiful, I can't even think in peace." she muttered to herself and dragged her body across the bed to grab her cell phone.

"Hello." she groaned.

"How's the novel coming up? I thought I should remind you that the deadline is nearing." came the reply.

"What kind of best friend are you?" Jia put the phone on speaker and put it beside her pillow as she laid down.

"The one who is also your agent and helps you make money." Tarini replied.

"I have something else on my mind, not able to write even a word." Jia squished her cheeks together making a fish face.

"What is it?"

"I have entered this alternate reality where I have become the female protagonist of the novel 'The Story of Chen Xiao Xi', I came to know that my grandfather had promised to get me married to this guy whose name I got to know today only." Jia raised her arms and flailed her arms from left to right and then back.

She could hear the interest in Tarini's tone when she said, "Who is the guy?"

"Some Xi Men Yan." she said it casually but unfortunately, Tarini who had just taken another sip of juice, choked on it splattering the juice all over her dress.

"Xi Men Yan? Did you say, Xi Men Yan?" Tarini asked.

"Yeah." Jia said, "I know he is this super rich and good looking guy, what's with the reaction?"

"I was just surprised," replied Tarini, "Do you remember that proposal that was sent by the Jade Group?"

"The one who wants to make a drama series based of mine 'Bewitched' novel series?" Jia rolled onto her stomach and drawing irregular patterns on her pillow using her finger.

"The one and only. Do you know who's the owner of Jade Group?" Tarini questioned.

Jia huffed in response, "Who?"

"Your would-be husband." replied Tarini.

"What?" Jia straightened up suddenly, "Is this some kind of conspiracy?"

Tarini wanted to hit her head against the wall but let go of the idea when she thought about how painful it would be, "Life is not that dramatic Jia! Nobody is aware that you, Jia Li, is the anonymous writer V. Valentina! Plus didn't you say that your grandfather was the one who made this marriage promise/deal? It's been 22 years that your grandfather died, you hadn't even started writing yet forget being a famous novelist. So don't give me the crap about this being a conspiracy or something."

"Whose friend are you? Shouldn't you be consoling me as I am being forced into this marriage?!" Jia whined.

"Who can force you into doing something." she emphasized the word 'you'. "You know what, go and meet him and find out what kind of guy he is. Maybe, like maybe you two will get along well." Tarini suggested.

"I can do that." Jia exclaimed cheerfully, "I will ask Dad for his number. Gonna call the guy. Bye bye." she ended the call and skipped out of her room to find her father.
