Day Sixteen, Who Knows?

"Eve," a voice called softly from through the door. "It's Amerella. Can I come in?" No answer.

"Eve, come on; you disappeared after your picnic with Markium, no one has seen you for a week, and Markium even shows up at the tavern and begged me to leave and check on you. What's going on?"

Still no answer.

"I'm coming in, Eve." She pushed on the door but it wouldn't budge, like it was locked.

"She put something in front of the door, I can't even go in," Markium explained. "I thought you could convince her to open the door, even to get some food."

"She hasn't eaten?" Chim's voice spoke up.

"I'm worried about her. We were talking about me building a house here, living here, and all of a sudden she walks off into the woods saying she needs to take care of something. Nest thing I know, she's blue, covered in snow, in the middle of summer might I add, and won't answer me."

"Now I see why you asked me here," Chim responded. "I can find a way into any house."

Amerella walked around the cottage, admiring the scenery and the garden. "You two worked pretty hard at this, huh?" she asked, admiring the straight rows.

"I had to do something after Eve ran into her house and slammed the door in my face," Markium sighed and sat on a log by a fire pit he dug out. "Kept myself busy when I'm not trying to get Eve to come outside and talk to me."

A scraping sound came from behind the door and they both ran to the front of the cottage to see Chim's clawed hand crack the door open.

"Amerella," he called quietly. "You may want to see this."

"What is it?" Markium asked.

"Let me look," Amerella answered and went through the door with Chim closing it behind her. "Oh god's, Eve..."

On the walls around her bed, there were words written in blood. "Marked. Owned. Slave." But one word stuck out that made her worry. "Ronim."

"This isn't good," Chim said. "If she has something to do with Ronim-"

"I hate to say it but, I think she does have something to do with Ronim. This isn't good."

"What do we do?"

"What's going on?" Markium asked, opening the door. He looked at the wall, covered in blood writing and Eve cowering behind her bed, turned over on its side. He looked at the words on the wall, marked and Ronim, and most of it made sense. "Who's Ronim?"

"Markium, you don't need to see this," Amerella said and went to close the door.

"Who is he?" He put his hand on the door and held it open. "Who is Ronim and what did he do to her?"

"Chim, stay here, take care of Eve. We'll talk about this outside, she's gone through enough."

Chim nodded, waved his hand in Eve's direction causing her eyes to slowly dip closed and fall asleep.

Markium built a fire while Amerella cleaned some vegetables in the stream.

"Of all the god's Eve could've made a deal with," she muttered.

"Who is he?" Markium asked.

"Ronim is the god of seduction and procreation. A long time ago, he came to the world and found a woman who's husband had died before their child was born. Ronim took pity on the woman and offered her everything she could ever want as long as she remained with him. Every day, she would ask for his companionship and help for her baby and every night he would come to her at night and sleep.

"One day, he saw her out with another man, innocent shopping, and became insanely jealous. That night when he went to her, he tore the baby from her body and planted his own."

"Ronim raped Eve!?" Markium yelled, standing quickly.

"We don't know that until she says or until she shows."

"She's pregnant?" He sat back down and stared at the fire.

"If he did hurt her, then yes. When a god and a woman sleep together, she always turns out pregnant."

"What happened to the woman?"

"She died when he took her baby and ever since then, he's been looking for a woman to carry his child."

"What happens to Eve if she is... if she's..."

Chim walked out slowly and looked at Amerella.

"Is she okay?" she asked.

"No," he answered sadly. "She's pregnant."

Eve didn't hear their exchange, she didn't want to. She closed her eyes and looked at her Stats Page one last time.
