/// "I was naïve, too happy, too cheerful, too positive that it became negative to the eyes of those who mattered without me realizing it. My innocence became my weakness. Maybe happiness is not for everyone afterall." ///
It was a Sunday morning. Birds are singing their ballad. Joggers passing joggers, greeting each other a wonderful morning.
James came out his room wearing a black tank top and green plaid boxers. He let out one last yawn while he stretched out his arms, then continued on downstairs.
He suddenly stopped, only five steps left, because he was startled by the sight of his sister, Jamee, wearing a pink tank top, armband for her phone, white shorts, ankle high socks, a sports headband, and hair tied to a ponytail, staring out the window by the front door, in front of the stairs.
"What are you doing?"
James asked, confused.
"Waiting for someone to start his morning jogs."
Jamee answered, still staring out the window.
"Wearing that?"
James asked while continuing down the stairs.
"Oh this? Yeah, I'm going to walk the dog."
James had a confused look, thinking there might be wrong with her sister.
"You do know we don't have a dog, right?"
"We do now."
Jamee said while turning around to face James.
James immediately stepped back in horror as he sees Jamee hugging a choco-colored puppy wearing a big red bow around its neck.
"Where did you get that thing? WHEN did you get that thing??"
James said as he slowly moved sideways into the living room to get away from the dog.
"Well, I was having a little stroll around the neighborhood last night when it followed me home."
Jamee said as she sets the puppy down and pet it on the head.
"Ever thought that it might belonged to someone else?"
James said as he went to the kitchen to look for some food.
"I did thought that, so I walked around the block to see if someone was looking for a dog nearby. But I didn't see anyone."
"So you just went home and took it."
James said while chewing on some cold pancakes.
"So I just went home and took it."
Jamee said as she stood up holding a leash.
James just rolled his eyes and continued on eating cold pancakes.
"Also, I know Trevor likes dogs. So I'm just waiting for him to come out his house."
Jamee said, getting antsy as she resumed staring out the window.
"Trevor? As in heartrob senior basketball superstar at school, boy living across the street Trevor?"
James said.
"Yes, that Trevor. Now shut up and eat your pancakes."
"Ever thought about how I don't like dogs? Your twin? A member of this household? Living under the same roof as you? And now that DOG? Also, did mom and dad approve of this? Do they even know??"
"Sshhh! There he is! I'm leaving, bye!"
Jamee said as she rushed outside with the puppy. But before she closed the door, she peeked back.
"And no, mom and dad doesn't know yet. You'll think of something. Love you! Bye!"
Jamee quickly added before she slammed the door shut.
"Twins."
James said as he punctured a pancake with his fork.
Jamee stood by the crosswalk, waiting for Trevor to cross the street.
She saw Trevor approaching the crosswalk and got really excited.
"Okay. Remember, best behavior."
Jamee said as she looked at the puppy.
"You too— erm— I'm just gonna call you Kitkat, because you look like a kitkat with your chocolate fur and red bow."
Jamee said while patting the puppy's head. The puppy seemed to like the name because it opened its mouth and stuck out its tounge like it was smiling while rapidly wagging its tail.
Jamee quickly realized that Trevor had already crossed the street and was about to pass them, so she stood up and pretended to bump into him.
"Oh! I'm sorry, miss. I didn't see you there."
Trevor said as he held onto Jamee to prevent her from falling down.
"No, no. It's my fault for not looking before I—"
Jamee purposely stopped mid-sentence and faced Trevor.
"Wait, aren't you Trevor? Hi. I'm really sorry."
"Hey! I know you! You're Jamee, Tina's friend."
"How did you—"
Before Jamee could finish her question, she remembered Tina saying that Trevor liked her and thought that that would be the reason why he knows she and Tina are friends.
"Yes! That's me. Heh heh."
Jamee said as she leaned close to Trevor batting her eyes.
Trevor leaned backward. He then noticed Kitkat.
"Hey! You got a choco labrador! That's awesome! They're somehow rare. Where did you get her?"
Trevor exclaimed as he kneeled down to pet Kitkat.
"Labrador? Is that what it is? I actually just found it last night. Well, technically IT found me. It followed me home."
"Awww. Little fellow got lost? Where did you come from?"
Trevor asked as he held Kitkat's face. Kitkat wagged it's tail and responded with a bark.
Jamee getting a bit frustrated because Trevor looked more interested in interacting with Kitkat than her.
"I was actually trying to look for its owners. Happen to know anyone who lost their dog?"
Jamee asked, trying to make Trevor talk to her.
Trevor stood up, his eyes still glued to Kitkat.
"No. But if you need any help, I'd be happy t—"
Before Trevor could finish, he was cut off by a sudden hug from Jamee.
"You will?! Oh, thank you! Thank you!"
Jamee exclaimed, getting overjoyed because she found a reason to hug Trevor.
Jamee released Trevor. He feels a little awkward.
"Sooo, may I get your number? You know, to contact you with regards to Kitkat's owners?"
Jamee asked, her heart beating with excitement and anxiousness.
"Oh sure. Let me have your phone."
Trevor said. Jamee took her phone from her pocket and gave it to Trevor. Trevor then typed in his number.
"So, you named her? It would be difficult to let go of her when you get attached."
"Then that just means we should find its owner asap."
Jamee said. Trevor looked at her and smiled.
"Here's your phone. Text me if you need anything. Gotta go. See ya!"
Trevor said as he continued jogging.
"I will! Bye!"
Jamee said as he waved him good bye, staring at him in the distance.
Jamee looked at her phone and sees Trevor's name and number.
"I. Got. His. Number."
Jamee said, still in shock.
"YEEESSS!!"
Jamee shouted as she jumped for joy.
Trevor was still close enough to hear this and he just smiled at Jamee's reaction, looking amused.
Jamee finally calmed down and renamed Trevor's contact and put a heart after his name.
"There. Now, let's go home Kitkat."
Jamee and Kitkat then went home.
James was sitting on the floor, playing with their Playstation 4, at the living room when Jamee suddenly opened the front door.
"WE'RE HOME!"
James got startled by Jamee's loud voice.
"You couldn't have been any louder?"
James exclaimed as the sound of getting defeated fill the background.
"I'm sorry. I'm just, so happy."
Jamee said as she let go of the leash and lied on the sofa.
"I'm guessing you had a successful walk?"
James said as he resumed playing. Kitkat sat next to him without him noticing.
"VERY successful. Trevor gave me his number!"
Jamee said before screaming out of joy.
James getting annoyed.
"Look, sis. It's not like I hate hearing you screech all day. But, Trevor? Really? He's a playboy. He might just be using you."
Jamee's smile faded.
"What do you know? And besides, Tina said Trevor likes me."
Jamee said as she stood up and go upstairs.
"Oh, and by the way. Kitkat is sitting next to you."
"Kitkat? Who's Ki—"
James turned his head and before finishing his sentence, he found himself face to face with Kitkat.
"What the f— DOG!"
James quickly backed away as much as possible.
Jamee laughed at the sight of her brother getting terrified of a puppy.
"GET THAT THING AWAY FROM ME! I'M ALLERGIC TO DOGS!"
"You're not allergic to dogs. You just don't like them."
"That's the same thing! Now, GET IT AWAY!"
James shouted as Kitkat stood up slowly approching him.
"JAMEE!!"
"Okay, okay. Here Kitkat, come here."
Kitkat looked at Jamee while wagging its tail then ran towards her. James relieved.
"Good girl. See ya, scaredy-cat."
Jamee said, laughing at her brother. James annoyed.
Jamee went inside her room and hopped onto her bed. She took her journal and wrote down what happened. She took out her polaroid and called Kitkat for a selfie.
"SMIIIILE!"
Jamee took the photo and glued it on the page.
"Great way to start the day."
Jamee said as she stares at the page and smiled.
