Before the turn of the 20th Century in Colonial Philippines, when the grasp of Spain started to weaken, a small town was disturbed by the disappearance of a young boy believed to be abducted by the Maranhig, a resurrected corpse seeking vengeance. This incident caused a nightmare to resurface which the townsmen thought they have long forgotten as the same incident happened years ago.
      But underneath the disappearance of the young boy was a much darker conflict slowly being revealed as the simple rural town get caught in a crossfire between the pious and pagan practitioners with their conflicting interests while the rest of the country struggled to obtain absolute freedom against the inquisition.

The House of the Unholy

Teo steps out of his room still fixing his buttons. From where he is standing he watches as Ana Rosa's figure disappears into the dimness of the hall with her robe gracefully flowing in the wind. The early morning sun is still hiding in gray clouds as the stone house is still concealed in darkness. Once her figure disappears completely, he then decides to take a step and turn his back to where he was from only to be stunned by a woman standing before him


    "Jimena?" the young man enquires stuttering


   "I came here to tell  that your breakfast is served Segnor," she responds with her head down, "I was also told to let the Captain and his wife know"


   Teo looks back to where Ana Rosa disappeared and stares again at the maid before him. He is silently assessing if the maid saw Ana Rosa leaving his room.


  "The Segnora seemed to be in a hurry. I thought of calling out to her but I was afraid I might disturb your sleep, Segnor,"


    "About her, Jimena" he stutters again


   "I saw her coming out of their room seemed to be lost in the hall, Segnor" the maid answers 


   The young man still has his sight locks at the maid. He seems to be watching every gestures that she is doing to convince himself of her claim. The maid suddenly takes a step back and walks away


   "It is really nice seeing you again, Jimena. I have no idea that you have been working here," he awkwardly pauses to call her out


   "The Don was too kind for he let me work  here as one of the servants. He could just not see me as a wife to his foster son" she answers sternly with her back against him


    " I am so sorry, Jimena" he whispers


    "That is fine, Segnor. Boys often outgrow their infatuation, your foster father said so," Jimena pauses, "six years in the city did change your preference, I suppose" she finishes as she glances at the hall looking passed at him


   "But please know that I am  happy for you and Isko" Teo responds


   Only then the maid looks  at Teo. She rests her left hand on her stomach to caress it in a circular motion. After which she nods at the young man and leaves him with a warm smile before she slowly walks away
