"How much does Ji-ae know?" Rai took a sip of his tea and then set it down on the table in front of where he rested.
Frankenstein hesitated for a moment, not quite sure how to respond to his master's question.
He lowered his head and said, "she remembers bits and pieces of the past. She knows that she is one of the nobles and..."
He was cut off by Rai asking, "and me?"
Frankenstein's head lowered further, "she's told me that she has dreams of someone that matches your appearance, but other than that... no, she doesn't remember."
Rai took another sip of his drink and mulled over what Frankie had just told him. He recalled the moment when she had said his name earlier, in her sweet, melodic voice.
He had always loved the way she said his name. Even if he wasn't one to display his emotions and was hard to read, it made him happy; she made him happy.
Then the world they shared started coming apart at the seams and things changed drastically, not just for them, but for the other nobles also.
That's enough thinking about the past.
Rai quickly controlled his thoughts and listened as Frankie told him about going to investigate where the coffin was located.
After he was done, Frankie asked, "so how was the class?"
Rai answered, "it was a new experience and Ji-ae helped with the things I didn't know."
"I'm curious, Ji-ae is just as old as I am, so why is she pretending to be a student?"
Frankie replied, "the same reason you are. She wanted to learn more about the human world and it helps to keep her calm; after what they did to her, there were more side-effects than just losing her memories. Her mind is frazzled constantly, she has frequent nightmares. Sometimes she zones out and then it becomes hard to wake her from her own daydreams."
"How can we help her?" Frankie was saddened by the loss of his friend - not physically, but mentally. Him, Rai and Ji-ae had been friends for years and even though they were back together again, it wasn't the same as back then.
"I see." Rai's hands clutched the cup tighter, causing it to almost shatter. "There's something else I have to tell you."
"Yes, master?"
"It seems I have a problem with my power."
"What?!" Frankie looked visibly shocked. "Is it because you were asleep for too long?"
Rai just sat in silence.
Frankie anticipated what he was going to say.
The power he spoke of, was that he could connect with another person's mind to help him with learning their language. Also, it helps so that he can understand what they say.
A problem with the ability...
"It was in maths class."
Heh... Frankie deadpanned and looked at his master in disbelief.
Even if he can connect, it's obvious he can't understand the complicated arithmetic and math equations.
"The gatekeeper was the teacher."
"The gatekeeper wasn't ordinary as I thought."
I knew he wasn't an ordinary guy from the start.
