Goodbyes

"Let me look at you one last time before you leave" Mark's mother held his face gently. "Come on maa its just for a few years. I'll be back even before you know it" Mark smiled. This was the first time these mother son were going to be apart. Mother Emma was the gentlest of a soul. This homely woman has abandoned everything for her family. Her dream to be a famous artist, her career as an emerging sculptor, her friends, her family, she left it all because she fell in love with Mark's father. Trained under Grandpa Lu, father Lu had a business oriented mind. Love and affection was nowhere to be found in his dictionary. Still he treated mother Emma very nicely and was considerate towards her and that was the reason she was content with her life.

Mark left for the check-in and waved good bye to his mother. Heart fluttering, ticket in hand, he was walking towards the terminal when he passed a gift shop in the waiting lounge. His attention was immediately caught by a hair pin. Crystals and glass pearls decorated on a gold wire twisted delicately with hand to give it a look of cherry blossom branch. A picture of a little girl in white dress wearing that pin floated in his mind and that sight made him awestruck. Without a second thought he immediately bought it and placed it in his pocket.

Next stop, Toronto. The flight landed at toronto and he looked through the city to find a jewellery shop. An assistant came to help him and was immediately shown the pearl pin to match a locket with it. Simply because 'Amber deserves more. She deserves everything and I'm going to spoil her to the point she will feel guilty about breaking connection with me and then I'll remind her of her promise'. Mark's pool of thoughts was running wild. The shopkeeper came back with different designs but what captured Mark's attention was a gold pendant that was shaped as a seashell with a freshwater pearl. The placement of the pearl gave the pendant an illusion of waning crescent captured within a seashell. Mark was happy with his purchase and boarded for the plane happily. Rest of the journey was gone as if mere minutes have passed.
