This is Sin Velgrem; I decided to write in my brother's spare journal. I don't expect anyone to find this but that's fine.
Our kingdom of shadow beings and spirit wolves was a haven for the balance between the dark and light forces. The people both within it and under its protection could live as they wished, but our kingdom was for outsiders, not for all. I along with my brother and sister were the heirs to the throne, though I was the extra and unlikely to become a ruler as I was the rare case, a red-eyed shadow being and I had a similarity to my mother's kitsune ancestors despite the fact that no shadow being could have animalistic DNA, also I was considered abnormal as only twins can be born normally, the male's always a shadow being and the female's always a spirit wolf. My father, the king, saw me as a possible threat since the ancient and uncontrollable weapon/heirloom was gone the night before my birth. It was not the first abnormality to occur though, since our head general's wife gave birth to an inverse pair. Spirit, my close friend, was the spirit wolf instead of his sister. We were seen as abnormals though I was infamous due to my birth circumstances and apparent lack of good emotions, Spirit and his sister gained more fame thanks to their proficiency in both strength and magic since women had more magical potential and men had more strength, so they had the best of both since the one with normally less power became a shadow being and the one with a lesser magic capacity became a spirit wolf. This helped in making us the trio, but we were only really okay with the public when together. We all partook in society as scholars and helpers, but apart from those times we were trained separately in our own fields of expertise, my training with information gathering, weaponized combat, and remaining hidden; Spirit with his physical training and development in technology, and his sister, who we called Sherry, did "basic" language studies and psychology.
The day of us receiving our internal weapons was the day we lost our home. The ceremony was normal, but an unexpected change occurred when the summoning of the grand councilmen succeed and our weapons were given and I got nothing, and the rift reacted and opened another with the worse possible outcome. My father and mother tried to hold it until the ceremony was finished and the evacuation could begin, I was told that my weapon was myself and that Spirit's was the opposite of mine; it was called Excalibur, and mine was Ragnarok, my family's sealed heirloom.
The choice my family chose was their last as my father and mother died. The virus we encountered was something we should have ran away from sooner, the whole situation was chaos; I and others only survived thanks to my brother's secret passageway. It helped little however; the situation was too grave and it was left to a few spirit wolves, me, Spirit, Sherry, and my sister. The whole thing was lost as I blacked out, according to Spirit I did some unheard of for a shadow being, I transformed into a fox made of metal and lost control but somehow I only killed the infected in the kingdom. We managed to escape, but we were divided. I and Spirit were together, but our differences led us to separate for our own education.
I would eventually learned that the outbreak was planned and that we were all meant to die. My father's secret rooms revealed the plan to remove us from existence so we could be "resurrected by the true god." I did meet the "true god" eventually but the motive behind the plan was plain obvious. Complete eradication. I knew this because of information I found in the ancient archives under the castle, shadow beings don't have souls thus no way to be revived or remembered after death. The spirit wolves were just a "necessary" loss. I sometimes wonder if father knew this too. I still remember his last words.
"For those who believe, defy.
For those who accept, deny.
For the beginning marks the end, and all tied to it. We are the embodiment of "sin" and we shall drown in our attempts to cleanse it. I am sorry my children, but we are bound to fate and that fate can't be avoided."
It was my first time experiencing sorrow, but now all I feel after discovering the meaning behind those words was anger and hatred towards the predetermined fate set be the creator. I denied their offering to become a servant, I said without hesitation that the only ones I'll ever serve would be the ones I chose myself. This led to my curse, I wasn't allowed speak ever again and was also bound to an unpleasant fate. The time passed as none questioned the silence, and soon after we all left to search for a new home outside of our world... we weren't the only ones to do so.
