Chapter 8 - Education is Key!

Main Character gains +1 across all knowledge-based activities. You are now better equipped with knowledge of the land, basic math, basic science, basic theory of magic, basic history.

Main Character gains +1 Charisma. You spend your time in classes not just studying but also socializing. You learn to be more approachable and fun to be around, people look up to you more and are more willing to listen to you.

For the next 2 years, you spend your days early in the morning attending lessons at the town's school until the evening when the sun is about midway through the day, around 2 p.m.

It hadn't taken you very long to realize that you had a knack for knowledge as you would quickly consume any books that the teachers would give you, going out of your way to devouring the entire town's library a few times over.

After 2 p.m., you would spend a few hours teaching the kids who were not nearly as quick to absorb the new information to earn some bronze, which you would give to Minerva.

In these 2 years, you've found the old lady growing frailer and frailer, so you begin to look for ways to help support her in her old age as she supported you.

One day in school, you look to two of your friends, Sarah and Chris as you lament over your financial situation, proclaiming that the money that you earn from tutoring the kids was simply not enough anymore.

They validly point out. "You're already smarter than most of the teachers in school".

"If you need money, you should start looking at some official jobs, my dad is looking for someone to help him with some chores too if you want something that isn't so official," Sarah added.

You consider their words, although Sarah and Chris have been your friends for 2 years, they have never dared to dream beyond their station, satisfied to take over their family businesses.

Chris was satisfied if he could pass the basics in school because his dad, the town blacksmith was forcing him to before he would be allowed to pick up the art of forging. Sarah was satisfied if she could inherit her mother's apothecary business.

A lot of Minerva's income came from Sarah's mother. So in a roundabout way, you owe a lot to Sarah's family too.

Still, what they say makes sense, you have already become far smarter than many of the teachers. It was high time that you looked beyond the current horizons and take the next step.

Taking the steps needed to enter the town hall that evening, you walk up to the clerk and hand over your adventurer's card. This thing has been updated every year and now you are more than able to read what is written on it, and you are learned enough to know that your stats are far above average for one your age.

As the clerk looks through your information, a list of available pathways most suitable to you appear in front of you. Out of all the various options, only two catches your eyes.

The first option was to head over to the inner chambers of the town council and sign up to join the council. The council was a group of old men who were paid to sit back and plan the future of the town as well as to handle all management of the town.

The second option was to head out on the next available caravan to a nearby town that was slightly bigger than your own. This was because that particular town had a magician's tower where interested parties could apply to attend and consume knowledge regarding the arcane.

Sign on to join the council (Chapter 16) or Go to the Magician's Tower. (Chapter 17).
