A World of Abilites!

Somewhere in a parallel universe - Earth. A world where humans grew up with powers. Unlike our Earth, the rise of humans with powers changed the course of history. This world, like any other parallel world with humans, went through immense conflict until it reached today. Modern Day. Urban Societies, the scientific age coexisting with powers. However, through time, one thing reigned supreme. Power and authority.

Powers are not equal. Some can glow, some can create small flames, abilities were myriad in number. However, there occasionally occur abilities that had a lot of potentials. Many of them would end up in positions of authority in governments and control the flow of the world.

Governments maintained stability with the help of these powerful individuals. Their services could be required in any circumstance - accidents, natural disasters, mediation in conflict and most of all fighting truants in society.

With rising economic and financial stability across the world, people who went against rules and broke them simply because they thought they were too powerful to go rampant without any consequence for their actions fell dramatically.

Those with significant abilities had immense status, wealth and power to go along with them. They ended up forming dynasties based on their powers. While the link between abilities and genetics wasn't completely explored yet, there certainly was some established link. The children of those with powerful abilities tended to have significant abilities of their own as well, however, the potential, degree of effectiveness and other crucial factors would vary considerably.

Different families had their own secret methods to train their children, a legacy of teachings from the experience of the ability users in the past. This was a remnant of a past era.

An era of heroes and villains! In an earlier time when the world was much more disorganized and unstable, certain people sought to use their overwhelming abilities to monopolize the resources of the resources of the world for themselves. They often used indiscriminate violence and other cruel tactics to intimidate others and gain power.

In response, an opposing group of similar individuals who followed the occupation of heroism. These heroes formed an alliance to thwart all villains and create order. Their hard earned victories and sacrifices for the benefit of the planet led to the structured and stable governments of today and an organized world where power got integrated into the system.

With the rise of structure, heroism was abandoned. In essence, heroes were unlawful vigilantes and while they were necessary in unstable times, in today's world they had lost their purpose and could only be considered a nuisance and such adventurous activities would be considered a crime

These heroes of the past were the progenitors of many of the powerful legacy families of today. While the world of today did not have nobility, these families truly wielded a lot of power within governments.

In such a world, high school is not like anything one would expect in our normal world. While similarities exist, there were also numerous differences. Power creates hierarchy after all. Schools had councils based on power hierarchy, dueling was encouraged to enhance the abilities of the students and violence and bullying would be the inevitable consequence.

One such school is Mobius High. A school with a significant reputation for being a gathering of elites. It often has an alumni output of major players in industry, government and security forces. Competition to get in and within the school, itself is very high.

Second Year, Class B, Math. It was near the end of the class and Ryan's boredom reached its peak. He never usually attended classes anyway, but the class chat group informed him that today they would be separated into groups for a project. Interrupting his thoughts, the female teacher spoke sternly to the class.

"Alright, that is it for Math. As for this semester-long project, I will list out the groups now. You have to work with your group to come up with a group project thesis, which is graded. So work with your partners."

Her announcement led to a series of groans in the class. The teacher began announcing the names of each group.

"Group 11...Sarah Riley, Ryan Holmes, James Carr...." The teacher paused as her eyes lingered on Ryan a little longer than usual. "I hope the three of you to behave cooperatively."

The class had suddenly gotten silent, students were attentively listening for one obvious reason.

"Damn, the class Queen Sarah and King James in one group, I guess that is to be expected. But they have to carry that weird guy along."

"What a confusing group eh..."

"That Ryan... What exactly is his ability? I have never seen him use it."

"He can levitate some light objects. His entire family has the same ability. I was after him the first year practical test, that was what he said."

"Pfft.. what? He has an amazing stroke of luck to be paired with Sarah and James."

"I wonder if it really is that good? We all know Sarah is an ice queen and James is interested in her. I feel sad for this Ryan to fall in between."

"Looks like a weakling is stealing some limelight... he he..."

As the class was murmuring these things, Ryan could hear everything. He sighed as he tried to ignore the attention he was getting. Being sandwiched between these two characters was the last thing he wanted but he had to deal with it now.

Sarah, the girl in question, blue-haired, extremely pretty but an ice cold face, her hair tied up with a ponytail made eye contact with Ryan, beckoning him to her seat. Once acknowledged, she turned towards James and repeated the gesture.

The three gathered around her desk and after a brief discussion, they formed a chat group to inform each other and set up a weekend hangout at a cafe to discuss the project. Most of the talking was by Sarah, Ryan simply nodded, while James alternated between flattering the girl and looking at Ryan threateningly.

Ryan made a bitter smile as he left the class and headed to the washroom. On the way he saw students fighting each other, bleeding, another one bullying a timid peer whose ability was probably considered poor. He hated how the world had become. The strong and the weak did coexist peacefully, but the weak did not really live free from worries. They had to constantly be wary of higher tier ability users. This school was the very reflection of this fact.

"A shitty world..." Ryan sighed as he was about to leave the washroom before he realized he was blockaded by 8 students of his class.

"Your world is about to get even shittier Mr. Ryan" Taunted a blonde bulky guy as his body began hardening. The eight guys charged towards Ryan to pummel him down, however, the reality is different from fantasy.

"A bunch of fools", said Ryan, rather simply as his black eyes suddenly grew brighter for a split second.

The next moment all eight stopped in their tracks and fell onto the floor with a synchronized thud. They were unconscious.

Ryan walked out calmly.
