"I don't do anything expecting something in return. You can see on your own that Vasko isn't worth you. All he wants is your settlement."
Yuliya was baffled as he had just scraped inside of her skull and removed her innermost misgivings. But she wouldn't give in that easily. "Mario has always told me that money isn't why he loves me and I believe him. There's no way that he doesn't have income that he's using. How else would he fund his lifestyle? He's got an enormous warehouse, there's land up in Montana where there are tenants farming, and I've seen him signing documents about a couple factories in Indonesia."
"That doesn't mean that's he's turning over a profit which is why he's trying to have more pocket money by selling off his stuff. Why do you think those bankers are around him? He's trying to get himself out from drowning."
Yuliya could feel a burning in her cheeks that she knew wasn't related to the unknown alcohol that she had drunk quickly. So Mario was really selling his stuff and this guy had bought something that was expensive. In her search for a future beyond her ex-husband she knew that she would find a lot of people who would be interested in everything–the money, the former title, even her connections—so she had been isolating herself from society. The isolation had come back to bite her now. "I-I . . . To say that I don't know what I'm doing is wrong. My awareness of myself is there, I do know that people would be attracted to me due to my past. I know I'm not pretty so I have been careful or I've tried to be careful."
Kai looked at her, the blue in his eyes reflecting her own appearance was calming as it was like a pool of water. His words were calming as if he was washing away her sinful almost. "I understand your intentions."
"Now in my pursuit of staying good, I've accidentally found myself stuck in a terrible place."
"Stuck? Yuliya true you will always have headlines chasing after you due to your former connections, but that doesn't mean that you should be afraid to move forwards with your life? You're not in Egypt anymore, you're back home where anything is possible for you to dream."
Yuliya couldn't think of anything else to say.
Her life had shattered when she had not been allowed to see her husband in the hospital and she knew it was bad so she hadn't been surprised when he had died. It was more trouble when she had been left the yacht in the Maldives, his money, his house, the staff and all of his investments had gone to Yuliya instead of the main wife. There were separate smaller amounts left to the main wife and their small son, but truly Yuliya had received all of this as a boon to combat the suffering she had received at the hands of her in-laws she knew. Probably some of the family had known and the main wife had not even fought her so there was probably a deeper trench than were she had tread already as the secondary wife.
Financial freedom was supposed to be exactly that and offer her leisure to do whatever she liked. But, such a thought to her was knew as she had never really not had a plan. That plan had come well with Vasko on his knees to give her a guiding hand to start a new life. The idea that these people could help her adjust to America was very appealing.
