Third Period

I looked up just to check the room numbers above the doors. When I got to room 45, I walked into the classroom and sat at a table at the back of the classroom. There wasn't anyone there, at least not yet.

"Hey, is this seat taken?" The boy who talked to me in PE, Henry, I think it was, asked me, pointing to the seat next to me.

"No," I answered softly. He sat down and got out a computer. He started playing snake on it. I decided to just let him be.

"So, what'd you do over the summer?" Henry asked, still looking at the screen.

"I mostly just stayed home and read the whole summer."

"Oh. I played video games."

"I've never played any. What are they like?"

"They're pretty fun. I started playing this survival game with my friends."

"Ah, maybe I'll give them a try sometime."

"If you want, I can give you some recommendations for games to play."

"Sure, I'd like that. Thanks."

The bell rang, and we wrapped up our conversation quickly.

"Hello everyone! I'm Mrs. Alcala, your English teacher this year," the teacher announced, "Today we'll be making About Me slideshows."

The class quieted down.

"Will we have to present them to the class?" Henry asked.

"I was considering having you guys present, but it would take up too much class time. Besides, I don't want to overwhelm you guys so early in the school year," Mrs. Alcala replied, "All you'll need to do is share the slideshow with me. I'll put my email on the projector."

She put a list of criteria that had to be met, as well as her email, on the projector. I wrote it all down on a piece of paper so I wouldn't forget, and some of my classmates did the same.

"Okay, pack your things up. We're going to the library to work on our slideshows," she said after we were done writing.

We quickly packed up our things and headed to the library. When we got there, we sat at a computer, got out the list of criteria, and went straight to work on our slideshows.

The criteria we needed to meet was as follows:

On slide one, state your name and period and include a picture of yourself.

On the other slides, answer these questions:

-What are your interests and hobbies?

-What are some of your goals for the future?

-What are some things that most people don't know about you?

-Is there anything you're looking forward to this school year? If so, what are they?

For each slide, please use your favorite color(s) for the background and add images to represent your responses.

Well, the first slide should be easy enough. I raised my hand.

"Yes?"

"Can I get my phone out to add the picture to the slide?"

"Sure, thanks for asking," Mrs. Alcala answered, "You guys can use your phones to add pictures to your slideshows," she exclaimed to the rest of the class.

I added the picture, changed the background color to blue, and typed out "Cyrus Santos, period 3 Honors English" on the first slide. The first slide was done. Onto the next one.

This one was pretty easy as well. I changed the background to a different shade of blue from the first slide, typed "My hobbies are reading and playing the glockenspiel," and uploaded images of a book and a glockenspiel to the slide.

When I got to slide 3, I became doubtful. Sure, I chose robotics because I wanted to build a robot of my own, but was robotic engineering really a path I wanted to pursue? I decided to do some research on robotic engineering. It still intrigued me, so I wrote down some goals that would help me to become a robotic engineer. I again changed the background to a new shade of blue, then uploaded images relating to my goals.

The bell rang, and it was time to head for 4th period. I put the paper with the criteria on it into my backpack, logged out of my account, and walked out of the library.
