Investigation || 01

She stood there at the door with her silhouette taking up the small door frame. regardless of her petti form, She always had an air of confidence.

Wearing that shabby light blue cardigan over a white blouse. Paired with a causal black, slightly above the knees skirt. With her favourite fitted pair of plump brown heels. Her brown almost black eyes stared through to Riku's soul.

'A sleek yet dangerous aura.' She was always an angel at war. Whether it was internal or external she was a true rose with thorns.

Her glasses slightly tilted, gleamed a little with the slight light that presented itself. They reflected his own form as the air stilled.

She placed her right hand on a single portable suitcase.

'She was ready to leave. The only person I've known, was just going to walk out. As if I never exsisted. As if She saw me as a scrap of food, a piece that had simply moulded into the crevice of under her heel.'

Clenching his fists they stood in silence. Riku wanted to speak but the words died upon entering his throat. His heart only got louder in his chest as what sounded like a clock vibrated through Riku's ears-

'Opening your eyes to reality is always the hard part. Especially when your far sight is as blurry as a camera lense with finger smudges.

'My body always denies moving at these moments of time.' A dream- no nightmare, an array of pictures and recorded times from the subconscious state of mind he had just escaped from.

"I can't believe she's dead" it was all too sudden, the day he had last seen her.

That Woman, that same one that presented herself endlessly through his nightmare. Once his Mother who'd taught him everything but claimed she adopted Riku… died a week later. Images of her and her heels echoing away with the tumble squeak of that suitcase behind her had been the final goodbye.

'It haunted me. Not just because she left, but the way she died.'

"Can you tell us about your adopted mother, anything? Did she seem strange, as if she wasn't herself?" You could tell this officer had done military training.

His muscles practically buldged under his suit with his neat yet pressuring air around him. He wasn't your average citizen, that was a given. But that was more of a reason for Riku to be on edge, this district didn't care for death of it's residents so much. 'So why now? Why her?'

Clencing his teeth his eyes darted to his lap. fumbling with each, Riku's hands seemed to fight one another in anxiousness. 'Why was I scared?' It's not like he hadn't been questioned before? This was a standard procedure regardless of the sudden interest, he didn't have anything to hide.

Riku could almost smell his own fear as the officer stared down at him. 'He's damn tall, granted I just hit puberty but he is a big man'

"Mr spears, your cooperation would be great" his voice was full authority. 'Could no one else sense this guy wasn't normal?' Riku now couldn't help it as he looked up slowly.

It was strangely cold in the small interrogation room. It looked well maintained and in order but it had seen fair share of the mill. Cracks in the walls and floors, scratches, a bit of this table even missing.

He could feel eyes from behind the officer, watching. That black reflected glass acting as a barrier for those behind it. 'I know they were watching', Riku's skin prickled as he grew more anxious by the second. 'Again, 'why was I so scared?'

"Anything at all?" 'Just spit it out', was he like this cause he never really talked to begin with? But even so why was he on a fight or flight response?

"N-no" Riku finally croaked like he had been punched in the gut! Granted the officer hadn't moved, his hands where clearly on the table. His fingers even interlocked with each other. But Riku could have sworn he felt it; not only that but his fingers, they are-

"Please try to speak more clearly, this is a serious investigation." Sighing his hand waved as if signaling for something to those behind the black one way mirror.

A woman came in as if expected. She handed the man a file and folder, with a few papers attached to it. Only to excuse her self after a brief whispering exchange of words.

"We do not want to waste your time here. If you cooperate with us, we will reward you for your bravery"

'Bravery?' He had never been brave. Not once, conflict was something he avoided as well as crowded places. 'She always did used to say 'Riku you are more a rat then an owl''.

"We want you to be the first to distinguish her remains" He believed at that point, that that was the last thing you would want to hear. Especially if someone was saying you were brave to do so.

His words seemed far away as Riku saw the rats in the box briefly flash through his mind.

Pulling out photos from the folder the man placed them down in front of Riku. 'Did I really want to look?'

"Please" his words were more a command then a gesture of guidance.

Swallowing the lump in his throat, he took in the crime scene pictures.

It dropped-

Riku's heart simply dropped. 'How was I supposed to know if this was her? It looked as if a kid had spread their mother's lip stick over everything possible!

Her face, her clothes, her body, ripped, broken and unrecognizable. I want to dry heave!' The room seemed to have only gotten colder with his reaction.

'What was I supposed to say to this!? Her arms and face disfigured. Her legs in impossible angles as if she was a figurine doll, the kind you bended in every which way!' Riku's stomach gave out finally as he saw her insides had been mangled outside her body as if someone pulled them out in glee. Simply playing with them while she was alive-

"We are sorry for your loss Mr Spears. By your reaction I can tell this isn't what you were expecting"

the man's aura seemed to calm as Riku's meal had just landed on the floor to his right of the table.

Suddenly a bucket was placed in front of him by the woman who had brought the file in earlier.

Riku didn't even noticed she had entered and simply dry heaved what was left into the bucket provided. While the man took the photos away and handed them back to the woman.

She once again took her leave as his throat burned with the feeling of acid mixed with leftovers.

"Thank you for your time Mr Spears, this is my direct contact number. If you do recall or stumble upon any information that could be of use. Give me a call." Putting the black card down in front of Riku, the man took his leave in a confident stride.
