An Unexpected Homecoming

Nico

In my only big fight with Solenn, I walked away from the impromptu drinking session by the beach after she let a random guy kiss her on the cheek for a photo. I was not upset. I was not jealous. I was tired and I wanted to have a quiet time with her. But she joined another drinking session! I thought she was trying to be cool. I didn't understand her friendliness.

She followed me and apologized. And to the words of Beyonce, we haven't argued (to the point of breaking up) since.

I have come to realize that Solenn's openness to share little, happy, carefree moments with people including five men who were drinking by the beach is part of her good nature. It became one of the millions of many things I love about her.

Three years later since bebu touched my abs and through all the ups and downs, I knew I had to bend on one knee.

I have been thinking about it for six months before it happened. At that time, I knew she was the one. I was sure.

Then one morning, I woke up and had the urge to spend a big part of my savings to buy a ring. Tip to all future members of the #bulliedhusband club: A ring is just a ring. It is just a material symbol of your love for your future #wifezilla, but will you buy her anything less than the gem that she is? Money spent to make #wifezilla happy is an investment.

But here is another tip, a more important tip: The actual proposal is the most important part. I studied quietly like a ninja for six months to prepare the wedding proposal that made my then future #wifezilla cry for almost an hour. I did it quietly because I do not want Solenn to get an inkling of what I was going to do!

Finally, I had a three-day opportunity to put everything together. She was going to the United States for a show. She was scheduled to come home on December 7 at 4am.

In the three days I had, I prepared a 46-minute video. I only told friends about my plan within three days because I was so worried one of them would give her hints and would ruin the surprise!

On December 7 at 2am, I went to the house of Solenn's parents to give her the most unforgettable homecoming surprise.

Solenn

After spending three days in the United States, I went straight to my parents' house because Nico said he was out of town for work. My mom invited me to have breakfast with them. Knowing I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway, I went to my parents' house straight from the airport.

My mom greeted me when I entered the house at dawn.

"Did you brush your teeth?" my mom asked me the moment I arrived.

Mom, I just landed.

"Did you brush your teeth?" she insisted.

What are you talking about?

I didn't understand her so I just went straight to the TV room. Then, I saw a paused video of Nico on the screen.

It was way too early in the morning, my mom was acting weirdly, and Nico's face was on our TV… My heart started to race.

I thought I would have a clue when he would propose. I really wasn't expecting him to do this a year later. We were talking about wanting to be together, but we had no concrete plans yet.

I entered the TV room and the video started playing. I started crying.

My friends from all over the world, from all stages of my life including those from my bartending friends from Paris, started giving Nico messages on why he should marry me. I didn't know how he got in touch with them or how he even knew about them! Then, his friends came next telling me why I should not marry Nico. It was hilarious!

Then, video messages from our families came next followed by a collage of our lives before we met and the past three years we have been together.

At the end of the video, it was Nico's turn.

"Come outside, I'm waiting for you, I think you know what I'm going ask you. If it's raining, ask your mom where I am in the house," he said.

I had been crying for almost an hour! It wasn't raining so I went outside and there he was--a vision in white. He was surrounded by balloons by the pool. The sun was starting to rise.

Then on bended knee, he asked: Will you marry me?

I cried and cried and cried. What?! What the f*ck?! This can't be! This can't be happening!

I couldn't believe that this moment of overwhelming love and joy was happening before me. Nico just gave me the surprise of a lifetime. And he pulled it off so perfectly because he managed to make sure my friends wouldn't give me a hint! That was an incredible feat.

Yes, definitely. I am marrying you, Mr. Bolzico. Thank goodness this was not a flash mob. #
