The Reason

A sci-fi short story about a world in which another human race from outer space has taken over the world. As a form of entertainment, they hook humans up to advanced technology and watch them play out lives as they would have been before the aliens had taken over.

Lily is mourning the loss of her best friend, Claire, who seemingly killed herself over a secret nobody knew. Only when she reads Claire's suicide note does she realize something is off.
