If you get cut by a sharp knife, chances are you won't feel it until a while later. However a paper cut, something that is definitely thinner than a knife usually hurts way more. The edges of paper are actually quite rough. It almost acts like a really thin saw and will do way more damage to cells and nerve endings. Paper also leaves behind a chemical residue that can irritate the wound.
