Dry rice can easily last 2 years without spoiling. Once it's cooked, it'll only last a few days at most (if you refrigerate it).
Just based on how compact rice is and how long it can last, it would definitely be a good idea to stockpile it.
Incase some really bad things were to happen, it'd be really helpful to have a food stockpile.
Maybe even to the point of leaving to prepare as soon as you read this chapter.
