When publishing a book, it's a great idea to publish multiple versions of it. Publish roughly 3 versions, all with indistinguishable outer appearances, but vastly different endings. Don't acknowledge the fact that there are multiple versions.

After a few years, start referencing "the true ending" which is somehow different from all the ending you actually published. Never acknowledge that this version of your book doesn't exist.
