7 Days Later
For most of the trip, Adrian and I didn't talk. We were too afraid to make what happened worse. We did talk a bit, but not much. The most we talked was when we played a board game with Callie.
So far Callie has been having the time of her life. She loved going to the beach every day and playing in the sand. Today is our last day here and we have already started to pack up.
"Melissa dear, are you almost packed up?" my mom asked me walking into my room.
"Yeah, I'm getting dressed. I packed all my stuff." I said while I was in the bathroom
"Okay honey, meet me in the living room." my mom said walking out of the room. I stripped down into my underwear.
"Melissa?" Adrian asked coming into the bathroom. I grabbed the towel and wrapped myself with me.
"You know you don't have to do that. I've already seen everything." He said.
"Well we are over now so there is no point in looking anymore." I said.
"Turn around and close your eyes," I said and he turned around.
"Is there something you need?" I asked him as I slipped on a pair of shorts and a tank.
"I just wanted to talk you. I mean we are barley talking. And I don't like that. We are best friends we aren't supposed to fight." Adrian said turning back around.
"Can we do this when we get home?" I asked him and before he could respond I hear and loud cry from downstairs.
I shoved past Adrian and ran downstairs into the kitchen to see my mom on the ground and curled up into a little ball crying.
"Mom, what's wrong?" I asked her coming up next to her and hugging her.
"Your grandmother is dead. Last night she had a heart attack. They found her earlier this morning." My mom said crying harder than she was before.
"Oh my god. We have o go home."I said now crying.
Adrian walked into the room.
"What happened?" He asked me.
I got up and brought him into the living room.
"My grandmother died last night and my mom just found out." I said.
Adrian looked at me.
"I am so sorry." He said taking his hand in mine.
I quickly took my hand away from his and looked at the ground.
"We are leaving now. I need to get my mom back to our place. Can you go up and grab everybody's stuff. And don't tell Callie what happened." I said and he nodded.
Adrian ran upstairs and I walked back to the kitchen where my mom was, she was no longer on the floor and she was now sitting at the kitchen table with her head in her hands crying.
"Mom, we need to get back home. You can't let Callie or Beth see you crying. They will be wondering what's up." I said and my mother nodded.
"Go clean yourself up so they don't see you. I will go put everything into the car." I said and he nodded.
My mom got up and headed out fo the kitchen. I headed into the living room and saw that mine and Adrian's bag was already downstairs.
"Adrian!" I called out and Adrian came down the stairs.
"Yeah?" He asked me.
"I need you to go get Callie, Beth's, and my mom's bag and bring it downstairs. I am going to put them into the car." I said and he headed back upstairs as I grabbed mine and his and headed to put the items in the car.
After having all of the bags into the car I gathered everybody and we headed toward the airport.NOdboy talked on the plane. I kept mom away from Callie. I told Beth before we got onto the plane and she didn't talk to anybody after that.
She had a really close relationship with my grandmother and hearing that broke her.
Once we got home my mom went into her office, and not even talking to dad. I guess dad had found out the news because he seemed genuinely happy. He has always hated my grandmother and everybody knew it.
Adrian went home and we dropped Callie off on our way back home. Beth locked herself into her room and didn't come out the whole night.
9 PM
I was sitting in my bed crying into my pillow when I heard a small knock on my door. I whiped my face and got up to open the door. I could hear a small sniff coming from the other side. Probably my mother or Beth.
"Melissa?" the voice called out.
My mother.
I open the door and my mom was standing there in a robe and her make up was totally messed up. Her mascara was coming down her face and her lipstick was everywhere.
"Hey mom. Are you okay?" I asked her already knowing the answer.
"I justed wanted to let you know Sunday is the day of the Funeral." my mom said before walking off. I wanted to go and talk to her, but I knew she needed to be left alone.
I closed the door and went back to my bed. For the next few days, everybody stayed in their rooms. Nobody was happy, everybody spent their days crying.
SUNDAY
Today is the day of the funeral. I invited Adrian cause I didn't want to be left alone.
Adrian and I decided to meet outside of the church.
"Hey," Adrian said.
I turned around to see him and he was in a black tux.
I was wearing a short black dress that fit my curves well.
"Hey."I said before hugging him.
I promise myself I wasn't gonna cry today. But it was so hard not to.
I pulled away from Adrian and looked at him.
He seemed so sad.
I grabbed his hand and drug him into the church and into a small room.
"What are we doing?" Adrian asked me.
I quickly shimmied out of my dress.
"You are going to take my mind off of everything."
