My mission

At the Spider Headquarters

'This is terrible, what on earth have I been doing?' Rhys sighed deeply. He didn't intend for things to progress this way with Lyn. Even if he lost control of himself, he didn't think it would end up with them sleeping together. This entire time she has refused him, and even cried when he kissed her. But ever since they returned to the Mist Kingdom, something has changed.

What could it be? For her to suddenly treat him kindly and accept his advances. There is one thing that would cause such a drastic change, she would have to regain her memories of their time together. That is the only way he can see Lyn accepting him. However, that's impossible. He is the main cause for her memory loss, unless he lifts the spell.

That spell, there is one other person who could break it. But, would Kazuya do something that stupid? Although there are rumors about Lyn and him now. He took careful measures that night to make sure that nobody saw them. Nobody should know about the date he had with Lyn, and that he slept with her.

Rhys paused in mid thought recalling the image of her bare skin and how she called out his name.

'Damn, I'm in trouble. Kazuya, I am sorry. Despite my behaviour, I wasn't serious about sleeping with her while she is still married to you. I was going to wait until Lyn ended her relationship with Kazuya before I did anything.'

He sighed frustrated. Damn it, this is bad. Now that he has touched her, he won't be able to stop himself from doing it again. For now he should avoid being alone with her, especially at night. If they are in public, he shouldn't go too far- Rhys paused in mid thought recalling what happened not too long ago. Actually he can't guarantee that even if they are in public that he wouldn't do anything.

His thoughts break off when somebody enters the room. It was a man with short black hair and dark skin, he wore a white medical cloak. It was his assistant chief Kain.

When he first formed the 'Spider' organisation, and was recruiting people. He found this guy to be the most suitable out of all the other candidates. Funnily enough Kain was coincidentally in the recruiting area that day dealing with a patient, he didn't even enlist.

"Kain."

"Take it easy, why do you look so angry first thing in the morning? Oh, is it a woman."

"..."

'One of the reasons why I hired him is because he is very sharp, but sometimes he is a bit too sharp.'

"Seriously? Who is it?"

"..Lyn."

At those words his friend looked at him surprised. "Well, this is a surprise. I thought you were against the multiple partners rule."

"Previously I told you I was married."

"Yeah but I never saw the woman-wait you--"

"It's Lyn."

Kain sighed deeply. "I thought it was strange that you were keeping it a tightly guarded secret. But if it is truly like what you say then, what are you going to do?"

"I'm not sure." Rhys trailed off. "Recently, we slept together but-"

"Woah, hold on you did what?"

"..."

Kain whistled. "I have to admit I am impressed. Ever since that girl became the Queen, she has rejected so many suitors. There were some fools who thought they could win her over by openly seducing her, but they all came back with a broken or lost limb."

Rhys frowned. He could imagine what sort of ordeals she had to experience.

"This is what I heard from when I was called to treat some nobles. Those guys initially tried to propose and win her over normally but she coldly rejected every one of them. So they came up with this. As you know, female rulers are not uncommon. But there are many who look down on them. That's precisely why Queen Orthez and her mother were cold blooded. I suspected that they understood that it was better to be seen as cold hearted then to be trampled on."

"Lyn isn't like that?"

"Well everybody has seen how she treats the villagers, she is clearly different. Even when she rejected those guys, she did so with a smile and as politely as she could. That's probably why those guys thought they could take advantage of her."

"So, what happened to those nobles?"

"Uh even my abilities as a doctor has it's limits. I can't do anything about a severed arm or leg."

'But Lyn has that ability.' From the sounds of it, Lyn hasn't used her healing ability in front of others. Or maybe since that battle. It's good that nobody knows, but he is amazed that she has managed to keep it a secret for a long time.

"Right now those guys have become useless, even their families want to abandon them. I think one got kicked out the other day, to regain favour with the Queen."

"Give me their names." Rhys was trying to control his anger. But for Lyn to go that far to cut their arms off, they must have gotten close enough to touch her or at least pin her down.

Kain's sweat fell. "H-hey, remember that you're not just the ambassador but the spider's chief. You can't just charge in and attack a noble."

"Then should I use my authority as a Prince from another Kingdom instead?"

"Uh no that would be worse." Kain trailed off. "Listen, today I'm actually heading over to see the guy who got kicked out of his home. Even though he got kicked out, his family is still paying for his medical services. So I suppose they are waiting to see if he gets cured or not."

"Let's go."

Kain sighed deeply. "Don't cause too much trouble."

Rhys rolled his eyes hearing those words. "-and your the one telling me that?"

"I am a respectable doctor-"

"Mr respectable doctor, the second I arrived at the headquarters I was chasing away a woman who said they would die without you."

At those words Kain grinned. "I seem to have that impact on people."

"Please don't share your occupation with your flings."

"Even if you say that everybody knows who I am because of you." Kain trailed off. "Should I send word to the castle in advance that you're about to cause a problem?"

"There is no need."

Besides, if Lyn hears what he is about to do, she will surely rush here herself. She had a light fever, so he doesn't want her moving around. Rhys felt frustrated however that he had to hear this story from Kain. Why didn't she tell him?

It's true that everything is happening at a rapid pace since they returned. But, surely with their current relationship, this is something she should share? No, what truly frustrated him was imagining that situation. What on earth was Kazuya doing that time?

'What was I doing? Why wasn't I there?'

Rhys clenched his fist. From now on he will never leave her side again, there is something he didn't tell her that night. Even if she didn't tell him to become her knight, he would have done so anyway.

'I made it my mission to protect her.'

Those feelings grew so strong that he 'coincidentally.' met up with Lyn when she was travelling. He appeared before her again because he could no longer control himself.
