Forgiveness doesn't return the knife

Dear Sugarcube,

I knew how this would end

I suspected all along

We couldn't even be friends.

Twice I returned the knife,

Forgave what came before.

Twice you had failed me.

The third stab and twist

Couldn't surprise me anymore.

But my medieval friend of a different nature

You drank the poison vial

And didn't tell me after.

You listened to the whispers

And thought not with head nor heart

You walked beyond what I had known of you

Your knife was worth twice his.

I was a fool to trust that he had changed

You were a selfish fool because you played his game.

Both of you took my heart and broke it

I tried to look the other way

But I couldn't.

Through the pain I was able to choke out

This was farewell.

Our friendship snapped it's threads

I loved you and forgave you

And to the past I didn't chain you

I may no longer walk with you

Go with my blessings instead.
