After an entire week of renovations, the property could be considered on par with the most expensive residence sold by the real estate manager. The fields were ready to be sown with seeds, the dwelling was thoroughly sanitized, and the well contained a decent amount of barely drinkable water. The only feature that differentiated it from the estates of the major households was that he had rearranged the vines and weeds to enhance the aesthetic value of his property. They also served as deterrents for unwanted visitors and wild animals that did not dare approach the thorny vines because he intentionally arranged them to be difficult to navigate through and easy to be harmed by. These vines eventually caused him to gain a peculiar reputation in the near future.
He had been unable to sell the crappy shed as no one was as stupid as Wei, but he had been able to sell the crumbling wood which the shed's walls were made from. Ironically, the materials the shed was made from were worth more than the shed itself. As he understood that crops took a while to mature, he knew he needed to rely on food sold by others in the meantime. Remembering that timber could be a decent source of money, he left the farm to head to the nearby forest.
It was tempting to punch trees with his bare fist like in a certain game but that would only ruin the quality of the wood and slightly graze his knuckles. So, he took an axe he recently purchased and put it to work. Surprisingly, it was just as effective as the Dull Knife at chopping wood.
With the Fertile Soil Ability, the soil was able to grow crops despite not being arable for decades and the original owner having been tricked into buying the land that was basically useless.
At the stream close to his estate, Atlas was trying to determine a viable method of irrigation. The well in his estate did not have enough water to constantly water the crops and he was pursuing other avenues. He considered digging a canal, but he was unable to find a lake to source the water from. There was barely enough water to fill the canal unless he made it super narrow which would decrease the efficiency drastically. Also, if he did make a canal then it would be too conspicuous.
People could easily sabotage his water supply and he would be unable to stop it due to the stream traveling over dozens of miles. Very few people had the motive to sabotage him, but Atlas was not a very trusting person. He then left with a bucket full of water and returned home.
The System would randomly give F-Rank quests and a few D-Rank quests for Atlas to complete. As they were relatively easy to complete, Atlas anticipated them and had gained a decent amount of points. However, since some of them involved the collection of money, he became curious and asked.
"Since, the collection of money is often a quest objective. Was my money included in the reincarnation score?"
It was not. The fortune of humans is irrelevant to this System. However, the Host is allowed to consider only his first life's fortune as an achievement. The downside is your descendants will be unable to partake in their inheritance
"Regard it as an achievement"
Fortune Relegated to Category: Accomplishments
Points Gained: 20000
Immediately, he went for that ability.
Pure-Water Generation {-10000}
Once within the comfort of his estate, he began experimenting. Standing over the well, he activated the ability. Out of his hand, a torrent of water apparated and continued to pour downwards like a miniature waterfall. When a whole minute passed and the well even began to overflow, Atlas stopped. There was no drain on his energy and the air did not seem to change.
'Isn't this too overpowered?'
It eliminated the need for irrigation as he could literally create water out of thin air but that was not what troubled him. The ability did not rely on how much moisture was in the air, it did not require his energy, and did not seem to transport water from an external source. With this issue occupying his mind, he focused on the other components of the farm.
Due to the unpleasant odors that came with life in ancient times, he decided to learn how to identify herbs that would relieve the sinuses and combat stenches. They were effective enough to even eliminate the foul stench wafting from the most horrid of outhouses. Not that he ever needed to go to an outhouse since the Automatic Body Hygiene also eliminated biological waste.
Armed with his new ability, he was able to thoroughly sanitize every part of the estate and wasted water like one breathed air.
As he was about to continue carving out a new wooden chair, he noticed that the crops were growing faster than anticipated. In one month, the soybeans fully matured and were ready to be harvested.
After this revelation, he conducted many experiments on different plants to test the accelerated growth rate and even started testing trees. He determined that the soil could cumulatively increase the growth rate to the point where a tree was able to bear fruit in just 2 months.
He had already become self-sufficient at the start of the experimentation when he stopped experimenting, he had accumulated such a surplus that it could last a single family three whole decades. He had determined through his own cooking that these ingredients were of higher quality than the premium goods purchased in his first world and was quite satisfied.
As no one had seen Wei for a very long time, the real estate manager decided to check if he could resell the property. Finally gathering enough courage to dare go through the treacherous vines, he was surprised to witness a beautiful garden that seemed to resemble those spoken of in legends and myths. Ignoring his clothes that were in tatters, he felt an inner peace that could only be experienced when alone in magnificent greenery.
