In the evening, Class 1-A was peaceful. Mou Lin was sitting at his desk his feet on the table as he reclined. His signature book in one hand as he answered questions that Ming Xie had.
Tan Cui who sat near the front was sleeping at her desk. Dai Tian who sat next to her was going through a bout of exercise on the blue mat.
Behind them, Xuan Yi and Fan Hua were meditating individually on their green mats. While Xuan Yu was sleeping.
Behind them was Lou Jian who constantly initiated conversations with the Hou siblings.
And at the far back was Seung Do who was reading.
The afternoon passed by mostly like this with a few changes. Like students other than Xuan Yu and Tan Cui going to Mou Lin with questions. Or alternating between meditation, conversation, exercising or relaxing.
With the day's classes almost over. Mou Lin snapped his book shut garnering the classes attention.
"As the ten kids with the highest potential. The Academy has quite a bit of expectation on you. The first of these expectations is that you will be able to fully sense Qi by the end of this week. This consist of not only being aware of its presence but being able to influence it. As an incentive, the Sect promises a reward to everyone who meets the goal. And the reward will be doubled for the one who accomplishes this first."
"Isn't this test unbalanced."
"Yeah, won't Fan Hua get first place no matter what."
"Not really, my talent is still a step below both Xuan Yi and Tan Cui."
"Indeed, the ones most people would expect to come first are; Xuan Yi, Tan Cui and then Fan Hua. But the speed one is able to interact with Qi depends more on intelligence, comprehension and the ability to clear one's mind."
"Then Lou Jian definitely won't be first."
"Are you saying I'm dumb?"
"Now, now I have something for you."
Getting up, Mou Lin took a package from under his desk and taking out a set of scrolls. Gifting one to each of his ten students.
Realizing what it was, Tan Cui and Fan Hua held odd expressions of confusion. Dai Tian had a disbelieving glare and Xuan Yu had a bemused expression.
'I wonder what's the catch.'
Returning to his seat Mou Lin relaxed and gave his student a steady gaze. Seeing that a bit over half didn't know what they were he explained;
"Those are communication scrolls. They are tied to my own personal one. If you ever need to ask a question or you need to report something. Write on the scroll and I will respond as soon as possible."
Xuan Yu's expression turned odd, Mou Lin was vastly oversimplifying these tools. Not only were they expensive they were complex with a variety of usage.
But then a clear and crisp chime rang out signaling the end of classes. And Xuan Yu didn't dwell on it anymore. Grabbing his items and leaving. Xuan Yi quickly stepped into pace behind him and left the school.
On their way out, talks of the Genius and the Trash were aplenty and though Xuan Yu ignored it Xuan Yi could feel something in him changing as he heard the praises toward him, rising over his brother.
Reaching the carriage, Xuan Yu turned to face Xuan Yi.
"Go home."
"Do you have tasks to take care of for Uncle again?"
Xuan Yu didn't have to think long to figure it out. But didn't bother denying it or confirming.
"Foolish little brother."
Xuan Yu said gently flicking Xuan Yi's forehead.
"If you don't hurry you won't be able to take first position and there are a lot of people expecting you to be first."
With an odd expression, Xuan Yi, held a hand to his forehead as he watched Xuan Yu leave.
Xuan Yu did as he had before, after drinking till deep in the night. He brought food and drink into the slums. Passing through the formation that allowed mortals to exit but never leave. He traveled to the closest district on the right once more. Luring in a group of dwellers to the square from last night. He offered them food and wine and once they ate he hunted them.
'31.'
Looking at the moon Xuan Yu thought about the number of mortals he killed as he set his left arm back. His arm, one of the dwellers had managed to break it. But even with a broken arm Xuan Yu barely slowed. His expression one of cold indifference as he slaughtered the 14 people he managed to lure here. Registering only their last words.
Finished setting his arm Xuan Yu's eyes changed and he drained the blood from the corpses around him. He breathed it in as he did when he was "feeding". And the injuries on his body rapidly healed.
This time he had fought without activating his Dao. So, the broken arm was not just the end of it.
After using three lives to heal, he funneled the rest into the Unholy Ascendance technique.
Baskerville appeared, even bigger than before, from one of the alleyways and behind him was 18 other dogs. Without Xuan Yu's prompt, they step forward and bit into the corpses, eating the dead without sparing anything.
As the dog ate a withered old man entered the square. Though the fear was evident on him he walked by the dogs and approached Xuan Yu. Reaching the latter's feet, he kowtowed and spoke.
"Great Ancestor excuse this one for speaking. But is it true that you will grant us food."
"Food and wine but I will kill you after."
"Thank you, Great Ancestor, for your grace."
Silence passed as Xuan Yu contemplated for a bit. There was still leftovers to feed this old man, but he had a better idea.
"Are there others like you, hopeless ones?"
"Yes, Great Ancestor."
"Then go out and gather them. Tomorrow is the full moon. You can feast and revel and then die."
"Thank you, Great Ancestor, for your grace."
The old man waited until Xuan Yu gave him permission and then left with shaky steps.
Finished, Xuan Yu told Baskerville to gather more servants for tomorrow and then returned home.
As Xuan Yu reached the gate he found two servants one was young, newly employed. The other was old and had served both Xuan Shen and Ong Zhou.
"Young Master Yu, please do not stay out so late."
"Oh?"
"Two of our guards were injured under suspicious circumstances. As we are currently investigating. This old servant kindly asks that the Young Master returns home quickly to avoid danger."
Seeing that the old guard was honestly concerned. Xuan Yu gave him a reply.
"I will be troubling you."
The old guard sighed and rubbed the back of his head.
"Then this old servant will do what he can."
Xuan Yu gave a simple nod and made his way to his room. Entering his bedroom, he saw Li Zi sitting on it. She was wearing just a white inner robe and her mind seemed to be elsewhere as she gripped the edge of the bed.
Noticing his presence only when he stood in front of her. Li Zi looked up into Xuan Yu's black eyes and readied her resolve.
"Y-young Master, your servant is ready."
"Mm, get into position."
Li Zi looked uncertain for a bit then understanding flashed on her. Releasing her grip, she got into bed properly and laid down. Closing, her eyes she waited.
"Not like that."
Hearing, him Li Zi trembled a bit and opened her eyes. Finding her lips annoyingly dry she moistened them. And tried to think how Xuan Yu wanted her to set. She didn't want to adjust herself and then have Xuan Yu think she was too bold or too bland. So, she admitted.
"Young Master, I'm not sure how I should adjust myself."
"I'll show you."
Hearing that Li Zi's already racing heartbeat, sped up even more. Seeing Xuan Yu lean in she couldn't stop herself and closed her eyes. And when she felt his touch she gripped the sheets, but as he touched her this way and that she let go.
"Young Master?"
Li Zi found herself sitting up in the lotus position. Her feet on the opposing thigh and the knuckles of her hand met right in front of her navel. The tips of the thumb were touching, and the back of her fingers were aligned with each other.
"Hmm?"
Opening her eyes Li Zi stared at Xuan Yu while blushing.
"Um, how are we supposed to… like this?"
Seeing her blushing and the expectation in her eyes. Xuan Yu finally realized what his tired mind was oblivious to. His expression didn't change even while a certain entity was laughing her head off.
Seeing Xuan Yu silent, Li Zi also suddenly realized she might be misunderstanding something, so she mustered her courage and asked.
"Young Master, what are we going to do?"
"Start you on the road to being a Cultivator."
Realizing she really was mistaken Li Zi blushed till she was red.
