Captain Dewey squints his eyes. A smoke? What's happening? He reaches for his binocular and lifts it up to put it on his eyes. He looks through it and saw that a group of houses is on fire. Thick, dark smoke coming out of the spot where the establishments are.

Houses? there got to be no houses here. They checked and recheck this area and he knew that they are miles away from the nearest McDonalds.

"There's got to be a mistake." Lieutenant Glorin exclaimed.

Yeah, I know, Captain Dewey stares at the smoke. He looks around one more time before coming to a realization.

" Let's check the smoke, guys. Alpha and Bravo company on me." He whirls his arm and make a chopping motion pointing at the direction where the smoke is coming. A signal to regroup and follow his lead.

He climbs on one of the tanks and continues to ponder the things that didn't make any sense right now. This exercise in this area will not be approved if there's any establishment in a specific radius. How come there's a village in here? He felt the warmth of the sun. The wind blows towards him and it smells like a fresh grass, reminds him of his childhood days which seems to bother him more than make his mind relax.

They travel for twenty minutes until they reach the outskirts of the village. The units advance halts. Captain Dewey look through his binoculars. He can see houses made out of brick and lumber. A brick wall and some wooden Palisades. A lamp post at the right side and an old wooden cart with hay that seemed to be left by it's owner in the middle of the street.

He scans the surrounding once more. His blood rushing through his vein, his eyes widen. His heart beating fast like a trapped hen trying to escape a cage. He look to the right. A woman and a child.

" I need a sniper." He said to the guy beside the tank.

The guy, named Sergeant Tim looks around, bit his lower lips then whistles.

" We need a sniper." He said. A guy with a ghoul mask covering his mouth moves forward and sets up his big gun on the top of small lump of land in front of him, his long barrel rifle resting on the flat rock. Captain Dewey climbs down of tank and approaches the crouching soldier.

" You see that monster." Captain Dewey crouch behind the soldier. The soldier gives a surprise look, like what the heck is he talking about? "Hit that." The captain said.

The soldier adjusts his lenses. His eyes widen, his jaw almost drop. Five human-like creatures carrying axes and spears are chasing the women and his boy around the backyard of the house. One of the creature runs around to catch them. The other four on the opposite direction.

The sniper closes his right eye. In awe to the creatures which he never saw in his entire life. He inhales then exhales until his breathing stabilizes. His finger moves slowly on the trigger. He inhales one more time and hold his breath.

He pulls the trigger.

It hit the creature right on its head while aiming the mother with his axe. The creature drop dead in a millisecond. The other four look at each other wondering what could have happened.

"Protect those civilians." Captain Dewey said, still looking through his binoculars with uneasiness.

Another gunfire rings the entire surroundings. The sniper cocks again his gun then open fire one more round until the remaining human-like creatures run for their lives, cowering like poor dog beaten by his master.

"Alright men, move." Captain Dewey ordered his troops.

The entire unit advances towards the burning village. The captain saw what was in there. Human-like creatures with pale skin and disproportionate body. What the heck is that? Something's happening here that he must somehow figure out. He needs to contact the HQ about this.

He taps one of the advancing tank, trying to get the attention of the tank crew inside. One of the crew pokes out of the tank then faces Captain Dewey.

" Sir, still no contact of the HQ." the tank crew said.

He bit his tongue and look at the scared mother who now notice them advancing towards the village. Damn it, he said to himself, Why can't they contact the HQ.

He adjusts his armour vest and approaches the anxious women, carefully.

"Secure the area!" He shouted. Liuetenant Glorin is following him with the two other soldier acting as a sentinel for any possible threat. The tanks passes them while the troops marches on the side of the tank forming up teams to secure the houses.

"Are you alright?" Captain Dewey calmly walked beside her showing of his two open palm. The women trembling, tightens his hug over the crying boy who looks at them with curious eye.

He leans forward a little bit and with sweet, low whisper he says, " Its alright. You're safe now."

Lieutenant Glorin looks at the dead corpses. " This is not human." The Lieutenant said.

"I know." Captain Dewey replied, looking upon it with disgust.

The Lieutenant kneels down and observe the infrastructure of the body. It's bigger than any human. Standing 7 feet tall, it has a jacked body. It's face protruded with seems to be a tusk coming out of it's mouth. " I've never seen anything like this. This is insane." The Lieutenant looks up to the Captain who's observing the body from where he is.

"Do you know them?" Captain Dewey turns his head towards the mother who still trembling.

"Yie--yee--e--s-s." Her mouth mustering all it's strength to blurt out one single word. Her trembling lips starts to move again. " Di-d-The--y came fro--um th--the so--so--uth, south."
