All was still in the darkness of their underground whereabouts. There was no whisper of winds, nor patters of dripping water against the cold stone. It was eerily silent, yet still a welcome companion against the constant noise of the outside world.
They were almost ready. Just a few more adjustments to the blood-drawn seal on the smooth, concrete-like floor.
"All is ready," a soft yet deep voice spoke up after a few minutes, breaking the silence with a double-edged knife. "Good work, Itachi." Another voice spoke up, but was more commanding. He was the leader. "Now," The man with the commanding voice continued, "Take your places and let us begin the ritual. You know your parts, do not disappoint me."
"Fucking Jashin's balls! It's about time we get this party started!" A loud voice cackled. "Agreed, it was becoming quite cumbersome just standing about twiddling our thumbs." A deep, snickering voice added in, as all of the people present, ten in total, got into position around the symmetrical seal, preparing to perform the chakra seals in sync.
"Calm yourselves," The leader spoke up, "There is no time to moan about lost time. The shinobi will be upon us in a matter of minutes. If this ancient jutsu is performed correctly, then our time will slow down long enough to capture the Nine Tail's Jinchuriki." He said as he placed an old scroll into the deep confines of his cloak and brought his hands together to form the starting snake-hand-seal.
The others followed suit and remained closed-lipped as their hands formed the familiar, and some unfamiliar, hand-seals as an astounding speed. No normal eyes would be able to keep up with their hand movements, but the leader kept an eye on all of them, making sure that they were all performing the correct chants and seals.
A minute later, the ritual was completed by all of the members biting deep into their flesh to draw out more blood for the justu to activate. As soon as the last of their blood had touched the floor and joined in with the drawn seal, they immediately noticed that something had gone wrong.
A loud rumble began to flow through the tunnels as the earth cracked and trembled beneath their feet.
"What the fuck is going on?!" The man with the loud voice screeched when he nearly lost his balance. "Did we do something wrong?" A new voice spoke up worriedly, eyeing the ground with his mechanical eye.
"It doesn't matter," A droning voice responded, "We need to get out, the tunnels are beginning to collapse and I sense that the Leaf brats are beginning to-"
His words were cut off as a bright light, coming from the seal, shone through the cave-like room, illuminating every person standing around the seal, each with a different volume of alarm written across their face.
And just as suddenly, the room was plunged into darkness just as the cave collapsed in on itself, the light of the seal taking them with it to a place they never thought could travel to...
The future, several thousand years in their time.
