Vester walked out from the auditorium wearing his black padded armour with grey stripes around the edges. On the left of his chest, the word 'Squire' was inscribed on it with grey colour. As he gazed in front, he could feel himself unleashing an immense amount of power, feeling absolutely contented with his current achievement.
Looking outside the auditorium from this view was indeed mind-relaxing. The auditorium itself was built on a high platform which one had to climb high in order to get inside.
He could see the countless number of people that were still yet to get inside the gate to be registered like he was looking at the colony of an ant army. The gentle breeze slid past his face as he shut his eyes seeming to communicate with it. Soon, he was propelled back to this world.
'I see you found your taste.' a voice rang out.
Vester opened only one of his eyes as he stared at Mordecai.
You have definitely got to stop sneaking up on me that way.
'Matches my ring.' Vester said.
Mordecai smiled and got closer to Vester, 'Thought you'll go for your hair colour.' Mordecai insisted.
Vester smirked. 'Red? Nah, figured that was too common between we squires.'
Mordecai smiled and shut his brows up at Vester's words. 'You'll need to pay the registration fee so you could start lesson tomorrow.' he said and walked up to him.
'I know.' Vester looked inside his shoulder bag.
'You know, your white eyes. There are lifeless, but I feel they're… weird.' Mordecai said as he gazed deep in Vester's eyes.
Vester raised a brow confusedly at Mordecai and said, 'Ever seen a—'
Mordecai!
A slightly angry voice belonging to a female rang out despite the unbridled noise of the crowd. This caused the pair to take their sights back to see the person calling.
A girl in a completely black padded armour with blue lines at the edges crossed her arms as she stood behind them. She had deep blue hair that fell and covered her left eye. While the look on her right eye was the sign of disinterest.
One unique feature of this girl was she had holsters for paper scrolls roughly ten centimetres around her waist and some scrolls even laid beside her lap like daggers making her look like a veteran.
'Uh... Veena?!' Mordecai spoke surprisedly.
'On the day we get to regulate you just disappear. Typical you!' she glared at him as she spoke.
Mordecai scratched his back as he said in an embarrassed tone, 'I was filling my spot for the Society.'
The girl ignored Mordecai and walked straight to Vester, as she made their visages only inches apart. After a long, long stare, she said to Mordecai, 'Who's this?'
'This is Sylvester, the guy who took my reserved spot.' Mordecai answered with a smile.
'Your spot? I thought that was supposed to be Bobby.' the girl squinted and said.
'Yeah, but bobby could fish out a spot for himself. What about you, who filled yours?'
The girl still stared at Vester and answered with a shrug, 'A friend of mine.'
Meanwhile, it seemed Vester could hardly control the sudden rush of saliva through his throat.
What the hell is wrong with you girl!
Even as shocked as Vester was, he noticed something amusing and could not deny it. The girl's lip was small and plump, making it look soft and also attractive.
So attractive Vester was enthralled by the blissful sensation he got from this wonderfully-made lips.
Wow… such round lips… feel like biting it.
'Haha! Good to know you gave out a spot!'* Mordecai suddenly jerked at Vester, breaking the connection of both parties as he wrapped his hand over Vester and pulled him far from the girl and yelled, 'Your real personality is starting to surface on you!'
Then he brought his head very close to Vester and whispered to him as they walked away, 'You do not want to try what your thinking of.'
Vester tried to squeeze his head out from Mordecai's cuddle to bombast him with questions but when he tried it was futile. He looked like a chicken trying to escape from the grip of a fry cook.
The girl, Veena, kept a close look at the two as they skedaddled from her. The moment they mixed with the crowd she narrowed her eye and gave their disappearing figures a stern look.
..
'Do you mind!' Vester complained with a muffled voice.
Mordecai released Vester from his arms. Vester patted his newly collected padded armour while he blurted, 'You have got to stop doing things without my permission. I had that girl!'
Mordecai rested his hands on his waist as he spoke, 'You think. Look, why don't you go back home we'll meet up tomorrow. I have to meet up with my class.'
'Sure.' Vester said calmly.
'That's more like it.' Mordecai planned on leaving when he suddenly remembered, 'And err… you should head over to the payment centre where the rest of the year's squires are summoned before you leave.' he then again spoke with a smile.
'Wait, I don't know how to get to–'
Foosh!
Mordecai without a sound dissipated into thin air like a ghost.
'–the payment centre.' Vester finished his speech, robbed his palm over his face and sighed.
After a while…
'Urgh..!'
Vester had trudged around the vicinity looking for any gathering or building that hosted the newly recruited squires according to what Mordecai mentioned earlier. But not even a person or thing had mentioned anything about it.
While he was lost in thoughts, he stumbled upon a building with a heavy signboard that wrote; 'Newly Recruited Squires'.
The Honorary Society of Ascension is not only just a place that takes in Ascenders. It is also an institution that deals with basically all the needs, wants, request and takes care of Ascenders concerning their ascended path. So it wasn't just bound to a building, many more buildings carrying their primary function were situated everywhere, making the Society look like an estate.
When Vester entered the building, he immediately began to sense the lively aura the building emanated because of the herd of effervescent children it held. All these children wore padded armour similar to his with their name inscribed on the chest regions.
'This must be the place!' Vester spoke fairly amused.
Vester even went further inside the building, passing children which were currently showing off their skills and conjuring their rings on their wrist for showoffs.
'I'm now a squire! Thank you, big brother, Sam!' a little boy around the age of thirteen shouted atop his voice to a young man who stood next to him.
'Ish… no need to thank me boto, just giving you my reserve spot is what an elder brother should do each.' the young man ruffled his middle hair as he answered awkwardly.
This scene happened just next to where Vester stood, so he caught everything on sight. But what made him amazed was the young man.
Instead of wearing a padded armour and having your name on it, this young man wore tinted white leather armour with a white cape that says 'Templar. Jnr!'
Funnily enough, this young man wasn't the type who was boastful of their status as he was being besieged by plenty of other squires and still had time to have fun with them.
'Templar... Jnr.' Vester murmured.
~Attention all squires! You will begin your training here in the Society tomorrow at noon, where you will be properly separated and put into different societies depending on the origin of your benefited spots. So please remember to bring your registration fee and be early!~
When this information rang out in the building, everyone's attention was drawn to it including the Templar. Jnr. But after it ended, the once happy squires became half shocked and half surprised.
The Templar who they surrounded was now gone!
Not a person saw how he left. Not even the ones who stood at his back nor the ones who watched and listened from afar could give an account of his disappearance.
Like he was never there!
After which…
Chaos broke out.
'W-what where is he!'
'Did you see him!'
'How could you not see him!'
Vester's eyes continued to flutter as he was once surprised and shocked like the rest of the squires. If it hadn't been for Mordecai who constantly appeared and disappeared, he would have the mindset that the society was haunted by ghosts or it hosted a program called 'Xylem's Got Talent - who disappeared most'.
Hmm… you just wait society, I'll show you who could disappear the most!
Vester thought loudly in his head
Some of the children began to leave after they heard the information so they could prepare for the next day. But as for Vester, he took his time to locate a well constructed multiple-sitter seat so he could relax on it till the next day. So after finding one, he made himself feel at home as he layed on it, supported his head by crossing his hand behind his neck and slowly shut his eyes.
There was a lot to happen tomorrow. Tomorrow he would begin training. Tomorrow he would meet his fellow squires with the same goal as him. Tomorrow he would see how much he could give into Ascension.
