Betrayal

'Please I didn't mean to startle you.' I calmly said.

For some reason they both stood there, with bewildered expressions. For a moment there I thought I had soup spilled on my suit. 'Is there something wrong with my wear.' I asked inspecting my lower torso.

They couldn't dwell on a surprise like this. This was her kind of job and I bet she'd face numerous cases like this. The case of being caught in the act. She could sum up a thing or two to say. So I didn't really expect her to keep that shock for too long.

But briefly another scenario happened. Inside that expression of hers, there was tiny bit of surprise in her eyes. I guess it's because of my disposition and my resolve. That surprise was to me. Not because of my appearance but my looks. Typically my hair was always sleeping to one side and my glasses never left my eyes. How I know what she felt inside was due to the flash of a seductive smile.

'Who are you.' Praise the lord! She finally spoke.

'That question is of me to say and for you to answer.' I smiled. These people, wherever they came from, they were nothing but pawns in my chessboard. Highly expendable. I can't bother much on them. But to be known, even pwans had a mission.

'I was requested by the … Mazzantis to dress his mothers room.' Still got that trick under her sleeve – the son of the Mazzantis shit.

'I believe you have something of great importance to me.'

'Is there something I can help you with?' she answered concerned.

I took another sip from my glass, then spoke. 'You see, couple' weeks ago my parents pasaed away. I was …emotionally lost. I did things which even for me felt ... weird. Like getting laid with a woman I just met at a bar. Who stole if not all my possessions. Including my car.'

The lady's countenance brightened up. She couldn't believe she was standing next to the man which she stole almost everything he had on that night and even zoomed off with his car. Karma was indeed a bitch.

'I'm sorry to hear.'

'Does that mean I can have my car back.'

'What car?'

I rose from the seat and took light steps to her, 'The car you stole from me.' I said in a clenched teeth.

'I don't remember fucking you.' she scowled to my face.

I didn't reply to that. Maybe she was right. That sex thing I had, it didn't feel so real. I turned my back to her and clasped my hands behind then took two steps forward.

'I've thought of a way to extricate you from certain doom.' I paused and smiled. 'One of you have to decide. Decide whom would stay behind so the other would go scott-free.'

I turned around and continue, 'It is a game. I'd like to call it Pick a Choose. In which one of you would go to jail so the other would get $50million.' I added with a smile.

For a second there they thought I was bluffing. How did I know this? Their disbelieve gaze.

I slowly dipped my hand into my suit inner pocket and brought out a paper. I held this paper with my index and middle finger only, straight up to my visage. When I introduced the card the man's mouth went numb. How could he not know what the paper was. It was a cheque. Further more, I smirked deviously at him.

In exchange for freedom plus $50million, the man wasn't reluctant to immediately sell Miss Celine off. As for Miss Celine on the other hand had been proposed to. She wouldn't let anything of sort happen to her just-at-the-corner wedding. She was willing to sacrifice herself just for him, because of the so-called LOVE she felt. How exasperating.

I'll tell you, it took a while for either of the two party to utter a word. Honestly I thought the lady was going to sell him off, but trust me, when it comes to studying people, that was the primary course mandated to me by my mother. So how could I not see ones inner motive through their slightest actions. But now this quirk had yet to catch any vestige of relenting to from this woman.

How excruciatingly annoying!

Talking of the man, I saw the blissful and tranquil countenance he made out of his subjective reverie. Like we and him both shared the same thoughts.

'I say she goes to jail.' he blurted.

Yep. That's it. Not surprise. And I don't think anyone should be either. But looking back at the lady. I bet she couldn't believe what just happened.

Anyways, I love this game. Mother used to play it on her workers who tried to steal from her. As for me, I stood by the door. Peeping through the thin space the opened door left.

It was surprising. He wasn't into her. But she could sell her soul for him. This was human nature, betrayal in the eyes of fortune.

I hope you grab a thing or two from this.

Never. Put. Your. Trust. On. Any. Man.

In this world, you are your only friend. You and the man behind the sun.

It was so sad. When I studied Miss Celine, she was on the verge of shedding tears. When I stared at the man he had a smirk on his face.

'You bastard!' she went ahead to thwack him hard.

He still had his smile plastered on his face when he massaged his jaw, 'It's for the best.'

I chuckled a bit before talking, 'The game is over. Mr?' I asked.

'Jeff... just call me Jeff.' he was ecstatic.

'Mr Jeff, you've just lost my game.' I decided to remodify my mother's version of the game. Originally, even after all the charades they're still going to jail. But mine, only one person here would be locked behind bars.

I wish you could see Mr Jeff's putrid expression and Miss Celine's blank stare. I continued, 'You see inside every person there's a latent devil. Mr Jeff here just let his out, forgetting about hers.' I gestured to Miss Celine with a smile. 'It's your time to let him out. The devil in you. Mr Jeff underestimated you. He took you for the weak and feeble lady you once were. Now Miss, tell me what punishment do you see befitting for his betrayal.'

Miss Celine glared at Jeff and spoke to his petrified stare, 'I want him to take blame for this break in.'

You see, everyone was born righteously. It just happens that every beast once had a sad story.

'C'mon baby... I'll just bluffing. I'd never leave you.' Mr Jeff pleaded.

'Fuck you!' she cursed at him. And hit him again on his face.

It was nice bringing out the devil inside people.  Especially after been looked down upon. Because they would strive for vengeance no matter who or what gets hurt.

'Y–your bluffing right.' Mr Jeff almost wet his pant. He looked at me in disbelieve.

'Oh, Jeffy–jeff ... I wouldn't be so sure.' I smiled and took sip from my glass while taking a quick glance at Miss Celine.

For someone as 'manly' as Mr Jeff, he sure knew how to shriek in the face of danger. Shrieking and lamenting at my prejudice.

For me I gazed at Miss Celine. While sipping from my glass. She also gazed at me as I did the same. I bet she tried to understand few things from me. Like why I decided to change my decision.

It didn't take long before she heard a crashing noise beside her. Like a window was being shattered. Immediatly she jerked her head sideways only to find her boyfriend, Jeff, laying unconscious on the tiled floor with the detritus of a broken vase and the old man from earlier holding a half–broken flower vase.

Due to shock she was left speechless. Assuming she thought Jeff was dead. And also couldn't believe the old man was beside her. She'd be like, 'where the hell did he come from?'

'How did I do Sir?' said Mr Dubois.

I gave Mr Dubois the 'nailed it' finger as an indication of a splendid job.

'Well, I'm not paying for that?' Mr Dubois stated and unbelievably threw the remnant of the vase at Jeff's unconscious body, causing Miss Celine to jump in again.

'What is wrong with you?! Can't you see you took him out already?!'

Mr Dubois with utmost respect replied, 'We can't be too sure Ma'am. Ever seen the walkthrough of 'the last of us'?' After finishing his speech, he held Jeff by the legs and pulled him out of the room. I even made way for them as the passed.

Leaving myself and the vengeful Miss Celine to be.
