88. Extravagant Encounters Part 3

Spence's POV:

It had been two months since I had been violated and witnessed a ghastly murder with no trace of justice. The local orphanage had pitied me and enrolled me in the school, giving me a speck of hope in the least.

"Spence, wake up dear." The head nun of the orphanage muttered in my ears, patting my head.

It seemed like this lady had taken a liking for me since the first day I came here. She had always been sure to make sure I was comfortable there, regardless of other children who may have had even more tragic pasts than mine. I remember hearing about Damien, whose parents had died during a mob lynching. Yet she was never kind to him. Rather, she was rude to them.

"Are you awake already?" She patted my head once again as I managed to sit up.

Looking straight in my eyes and caressing my head, she said, "There are people coming to adopt a child. Get ready and come to the dining hall."

By this time, I was totally invested in her motherly love.

"I don't want to leave you." I said, racing closer and wrapping my arms around her.

"Me too." She muttered as she pinched my nose. "But it would be nice to see you with a family."

She was a beautiful maiden, to say the least. Fringes of short brown hair stuck out of her bonnet, which went down to the length of her veil when she kept it open. Her hazel eyes were almost magnetic, pulling me closer to herself and her kindness.

"Ok now go get ready." She grabbed me off the bed and placed me onto the floor, pushing me to the bathroom.

I got out of the bathroom after a quick shower and headed to the dining room, where everyone was waiting for me. Although I was an outgoing kid in the past, it had become very difficult for me to start a conversation with someone those days. Due to which, I had trouble making friends and turned out to be a loner.

"Spence, eat some food, my child." She picked up some bread off a board and placed it on my plate.

"May... I... Have... So... Some... Salt?" I kept my head down and asked in a low voice. Stuttering had become a common problem of mine.

"Look at this person!" One of the girls said scornfully. "He can't even talk properly."

The crowd erupted with laughter, sending chills down my spine.

I wanted to bash her bad for saying this about me but seeing the current situation, I decided to keep mum.

The nun glared at her intently. I could see the flames of fury in her eyes. The girl and her friends smirked at me, before returning back to their plates.

"Today, Spence will go to his new home, aren't you all excited?" She cheerfully remarked.

"We will be sad to see him go." One of the boys said. My face lit with happiness upon hearing that. It was the first time they had acknowledged my existence. "He was a good entertainment for us." Another boy followed and everyone started to laugh.

"Everyone! Silence in the room." The head sister barged into the room and stared at us. "Spence, come along with me, child."

I quickly got up and followed her to the main registration room, where all kids go for two reasons, either to be abandoned or to be accepted. It was a small cabin consisting of a small table and a desktop with student information on it. I saw two people sitting on the swivel chairs, facing their backs towards me.

"Mr and Mrs. Fernandes, he's Spence, the most sensible child of our orphanage."

They turned around to look at me and I couldn't handle the angelic glow that their faces donned. I slumped on the ground, pondering whether I even deserved them.

"Aren't you Spence?" The lady asked me in a voice sweeter than honey. I looked upto her with my innocent eyes as my mind wandered off somewhere else. "Yes." I nodded my head.

She squished my cheeks and squealed, "He's so cute! I think I am in love with him.

"We'll take him then." The man had a rather deep but homely voice.

The lady carried me in her arms and took me to the backyard of the building, where their car was parked. Placing me in the car gently, she opened the front door and sat inside. Maybe it was my genetics or my problems, but I was sure she had mistook me for a child.

"Aunty, I am thirteen years old." I said to her. She turned back and looked at me in astonishment but her expressions gradually calmed down.

"My kids will like you. I have two." She said as she turned back to her seat, facing the windshield of the car, looking at her husband walk towards the car.

He hopped in the car as he smiled at me, accelerating the car towards a new destination. For me, at least.
