Katie was worried about me when I jumped into the car later than normal. I told her that I was fine. I explained that I had to stay after school but I didn't really go into much detail. She just dropped it and took me out to McDonald's for some lunch. She asked me if I drew any more pictures while I was in school.
I looked at her with delight and pulled out my notebook. I turned it around and shown her the picture of Favain in the grass.
She smiles approvingly. "That's a really good drawing. What's his name again?"
"Favain."
"Oh, that's a cool name. Does it have a meaning?"
"It means a smart man."
She laughs. "He does look pretty smart."
I nod, taking my book back. I took one last drink before we cleaned up our trash and headed for home. I was excited to walk in the front door to be greeted by a friendly environment. I throw my backpack down on the bench next to the front door, kicking my shoes off. Katie laughs at me when I stretch out. Heaving a sigh I wander to my room.
It felt good to flop down on my bed. To get as comfortable as possible and read a nice story.
"Did you thank your sister?" Theabul walks in my room with his arms crossed at me.
"Hey Katie?"
She pops her head in. "Yeah?"
"Thank you."
She giggles at me with a smile. "You're welcome, sweetheart." She goes back into the living room to turn on the TV.
"That's better." Theabul pats my head.
I glare at him. "Why do you make me do this crap?"
"Because it is the right thing to do, silly."
"Theabul. Really? I swear sometimes."
He shrugs his shoulders. He wears a t-shirt and jeans like me. His hair blonde but messy. His shoes are grey high top converse, always covering the tops with his jeans.
"I'm just looking after you is all. Geez, can't you just take it, and not question everything?" He drags his fingers through his hair.
I laugh at him. "Of course not. I have to mess around with you sometimes, you know. You just refuse to have a little fun in your life." I roll my eyes.
He can't tell me what to do all the time. It's not fair. He's not my dad or any kind of parental figure to me, so there literally isn't any point to do what he tells me.
I laugh to myself. He gives me a weird look but doesn't ask about it. I'm glad I'm home. I wonder where Favain is. He just disappeared. I don't even know if he came home or not. The front door opens from the outside and closes. I run to go see who it was. It was Favain with Avilasa. They must have gone out again on another date. She has a huge crush on him. Kinda makes me upset sometimes because I don't like it when people date each other in my friend group.
Technically they aren't dating but she most certainly is flirty with him. You should see them when they are out together. She's so clingy to him, it is almost disgusting. Or, well, to me it is.
I waltz back to my room. Apparently I had a disgusted face because Theabul noticed it. He asked me what I was thinking about. I literally don't want to tell him shit, but at this point I can't help myself. Being caught angry, you sometimes need release. This is one of those times where I needed release.
"It's Avi and Favain. She's so clingy to him, it just isn't okay to me. I don't like it when my friends are so lovey dovey with each other. What if they date, and what if they break up because they don't like each other anymore? Both of them will be my friends still but nothing will be the same anymore. I won't be able to get them to be in the same room with each other anymore. I don't know what to do, Thea. It scares me."
"Maybe you need to tell them how you feel. Expressing your emotions about this is a good thing. It helps them understand what you're feeling as well as they will take your concern into consideration before making a final decision. How you feel is normal. There's lots of people out there that feel the same way you do. Is it also possible you're jealous?"
"No! Why would I be jealous? I don't like either one of them like that. That's just gross. And plus, if I liked one of them like that and lets say we started dating. What happens after that? What if we don't like one another? We'll end up breaking our relationship and I'll never see them again. I won't even be able to see them like they are now. It's just not right."
He nods his head in agreement. "In all honesty, we are all family at this point. If one of us ended up leaving it would upset everyone here. Even Katie."
"You're probably right, but I still don't understand why Katie..." I stopped to hear the doorbell ring. I grow curious of to who it is because people rarely come to our house. Katie yells to me that she will answer the door.
I hear a conversation break out of two women talking. One of them is Katie and the other is a voice I don't recognize. After a brief greeting, Katie calls me out to the living room. My vision darts over to Theabul. He shrugs his shoulders at me. I mouth, "what do I do?" He gets up to take a hold of my hand, pulling me off of my bed and to the doorway. I felt him gently push me out the door. I look back at him wanting to go back into the comfort of my room. He refuses me. I sigh, and head to the living room.
